Reaching out to a therapist can be intimidating as hell, I get it. However, I'm a person who knows what it's like to be on both sides of the therapeutic relationship.

Every person needs a secure space where they can become their most authentic selves. I strive to approach therapy with radical genuineness, compassion, warmth, and humor. I believe that therapy at its best is a creative, judgment-free space between equals. This creates an environment where you can be yourself and learn to manage thoughts and emotions getting in your way. I like to incorporate techniques from DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, attachment theory, body-centered approaches, sports psychology, mindfulness, body positivity, trauma-informed practices, and sometimes a dash of geek culture references.

I enjoy working with individuals and couples in a joint effort to help build on strengths that each individual already brings to the table. I believe seeking therapy for any reason takes courage, and anyone can benefit from engaging in the therapeutic process.

Authentic Roots Therapy is a mental health collaborative where licensed professionals provide individual, couple, & family mental health therapy in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We specialize in working with children, couples, families, LGBTQIA+ individuals, individuals who are questioning, curious, transitioning, or identifying as transgender/non-binary, mothers in postpartum, faith communities, individuals experiencing traumatic symptomatology, and highly sensitive men.

I love to take an integrated approach to working with people and seeing people in the context of all aspects of their lives. As a queer, nonbinary transgender person I am passionate about intersectional social justice and working towards a world in which everyone is treated with respect and dignity. I enjoy working with people from all backgrounds, however, I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ people, people with co-occurring disorders, and persons living with HIV.

I believe in a holistic approach to therapy—in other words, treating the whole person rather than fragmenting someone into parts. This approach involves meeting my clients where they’re at, focusing on the therapeutic relationship, and working together to create realistic goals. I am empathetic, direct, and keep it real while maintaining compassion. Most importantly, I believe that therapy can (and should) be fun! I pride myself in creating a therapeutic space where my clients can work on the hard stuff, but also take space to laugh and just be human.

As an openly polyamorous-queer-gender nonconforming person, I’ve spent most of my life experiencing microaggressions & unlearning the cisnormative & hetronormative messages that constantly tell us we are defective, broken, or unwanted. They are wrong! We are fabulous, vibrant & deserving, of all the gifts the world has to offer. I became a therapist to share what I’ve learned, bring healing, & advocate for queer/trans youth, young adults & their families while working for social justice & full inclusion into society. Our work will be in a safe, affirming space so we can collaborate to create & implement a road map to your recovery.

My work has been primarily centered around concerns relating to complex trauma, substance use, anxiety, ADHD, and identity concerns. In particular, I have a strong passion for working within the LGBTQIA+ community. As part of my practice, I recognize that our overall health can be impacted by our lived experiences with the broken systems around us, and at times, symptoms can be a direct result from living within these systems. My focus is to help clients gain insight around the impacts that past experiences may have had, address past trauma, recognize one's own strengths, and learn how to navigate through the challenges of life.

I am a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) and under supervision to be a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). My passion lies in working with adults and couples by utilizing EMDR, harm reduction, trauma-responsive care, and culturally affirming therapy to help people embrace recovery from a holistic approach. My specializations are in complex trauma, dissociation, LGBTQ individuals, neurodivergent minds, alcohol + substance use, housing instability, chronic illness, non-monogamy, self-harm, and eating disorders. I am also available to write letters for gender-affirming care.

Through personal exploration and a deep, honest evaluation of your surrounding environments, you can foster a sense of clarity and become better equipped to face the obstacles that life hands out.

Seeking therapy takes immense courage, and the therapy session should be a place to explore, question, struggle, and heal without judgment. In my practice, I utilize a systemic, feminist approach that honors the innate dignity, worth, and capacity for change in all human beings. I believe that healing and change happen in our relationships to others and to a global sense of humanity. I strive to create a safe container in which to practice interpersonal healing, utilizing the therapeutic relationship and process as the primary tool for creating change.

In our sessions you get to focus on creating happiness and satisfaction. You deserve to feel free to be yourself, love who you are, and create the life you want. I provide a safe space that welcomes everyone and all conversations. I have worked with a variety of people focusing on trauma, purpose, anxiety, depression, stress, empowerment, sexuality, gender, interpersonal skills, mood swings, psychosis, suicide ideation, communication, attachment and more. I also create a safe space for, but not limited to, people who are part of the LGBTQIA2S+, Kink, Queer, and Non-monogamous communities.

Now (as of 1/1/2023) accepting new clients for virtual therapy. My specialty is helping people to get their painful emotions out of their way and on their side. If your feelings are getting in the way of your relationships, sobriety, career, or life, I'd like the chance to help. I especially enjoy working with people trying to stay sober, members of the queer community, people coping with the justice system, and people with disabilities or chronic pain. My clients often feel overlooked or misunderstood by other therapists, and really need someone to listen to them.
