The purpose of counseling is to help people cope with problems in daily living and to deal with inner conflicts which hinder various aspects of their personal satisfaction and functioning. This purpose is usually accomplished by increasing the client's personal awareness, increasing the client's acceptance of self and others, and having the client make behavioral and cognitive changes to attain personal goals. To achieve this, I utilize a combination of research-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, solution focused therapy, reality therapy, motivational interviewing, and client-centered therapy.

My name is Tara and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor with over 10 years of experience working in the mental health field in various settings and with diverse populations. My areas of expertise include addiction, mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, severe mental illness, attachment, adjustment, behavioral, identity and esteem issues. Additionally, I have experience with racial and social justice and marginalized communities.

I work with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan from teen age through elder adulthood experiencing mood, trauma, adjustment, identity, relational, and developmental challenges.

I graduated from NYU in 1981 and have had a clinical practice in Social Work since 1986. My treatment approach is eclectic. However, I am a certified EMDR therapist, and that, along with, Supportive Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral techniques inform the manner in which I work with my clients. In my years of practice in the field, I have developed an honest respect for the therapy process and a confidence in the resiliency of the people that I have had the opportunity to work with.

I am a Licensed Social Worker in both New Jersey and New York and received my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Ramapo College of New Jersey. I am trained in EMDR and specialize in working with children, adolescents, adults and couples with a focus on anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, grief and trauma. I also come from a creative background and love utilizing skills such as photography, soul collage and other expressive therapy modalities as tools to engage with clients. I'm focused on providing person-centered and trauma-informed care while creating a safe and compassionate environment.
