I have 26 years of experience working with a variety of psychological challenges including anxiety, adjustment disorders, depression, personality disorders, and trauma/PTSD.
My work with individuals has focused on people who have a strong desire to live meaningful lives and have a sincere wish to be good partners, parents, and community members. At the same time, they feel distant from their deeper selves and find that their relationships and life are not what they had hoped they would be at this time. They find that they are inwardly blocked from living life more fully. My work with couples, families, children, and adolescents has focused on helping navigate challenging circumstances, stressors, familial and life events.

I have extensive training in relationships and trauma and am passionate about working with individuals and couples with relationship issues.
I am most passionate about working with people who are not happy with their current situation and wanting to make a change. For individuals this might be wanting to analyze the relationship they are in, make a career change, challenge old mindsets that are no longer working for them or disuss current mental health symptoms they are experiencing. For couples this could be exploring compatability, communication challenges, lack of intimacy, ongoing conflict, confronting addiction or having experienced an affair. My training in trauma, addiction and recovering from affairs allows me to work with the most challenging circumstances.

What is the point of insight if nothing changes? What is the point of change if we lack insight as to why it even did? Through our conversations I’d like to help you to see, both yourself and your situation, in an authentic light with a new perspective that sticks with you long after you leave the therapy room.

I use equine-assisted therapy model Eagala. The client chooses the pace and what to work on. Clients who have experienced trauma, anxieties, and other emotional related problems can find that the horses can relate because they are hyper vigilant and reflect back what they sense. As the counselor I allow for the process to work through at it's own pace and support the strengths of the client as they emerge. I have several locations in Western WA, in order to ease access. At present I have Enumclaw, Lake Stevens, Maple Valley, Spanaway, Riversdale, and Olympia. I have a sliding scale not based just on income.

I employ a systems-oriented, relational, and trauma-informed approach to my work and enjoy working with folks (especially Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous, People Of Color) looking to heal and thrive in the face of trauma and oppression.
"Pain is important: how we evade it, how we succumb to it, how we deal with it, how we transcend it" - Audre Lorde. I hope to build healing relationships with people who would like to create more connection, ease and freedom in their lives. I work relationally and through the body by building self awareness, and doing standing and seated embodiment practices.

My goal is to provide a safe counseling space for you to filter through your personal journey, while equipping you with support and resources, to guide you on the path to overall wellness. Therapy is not always easy, but healing is achievable through a non-judgmental and compassionate environment.

I am here as a guide to walk with you through this portal of change. I am a trauma-informed therapist and my approach to therapy acknowledges the impact that stressful experiences can have on our mind, body, and spirit. I can support you in releasing any deeply embedded patterns that limit your ability to feel connected and show up fully in the world.

My style of therapy: I adapt quickly to the culture and values of my client. I am client-centered and non-judgmental in my work. I appreciate cognitive therapy as I listen to my client's feelings and connect them to their thoughts and beliefs--especially in the treatment of depression. I employ trauma therapy approaches when working with anxiety and panic disorders. When isolation is a problem, I am attentive to the social context of my clients, including family of origin and other support people. Finally, I am solution-focused, meaning we face forward by setting goals and taking small risks to increase my client's comfort zone.

Factors that are unique to me and my practice come out of personal and professional depths of experience with illness, loss, death and trauma.
My preferred method of practice and my professional strengths involve a combination of our work together, identification and change of negative thougt patterns, and an exploration of sensations and moods that are assoicated with these thoughts. From this and from the experience of understanding and connection, new and healthy patterns of relating to yourself and others in your life can begin to be established and can continue to grow. You can begin to feel a sense of well-being, meaning, and purpose in your personal and professional life.

Symptoms of emotional distress, don't just come out of nowhere. As we go through life, our bodies alert us about whether to go towards something that seems safe, or away from something that seems dangerous. When there is no escape from the cause of sensations, as is the case in physical, emotional or sexual abuse, we learn learn ways avoid feeling the sensations in our body in order to protect ourselves. In order to heal, we need to be able to be in touch with our body sensations. They give us valuable information about safety. We can work together on helping you to feel safe and relaxed and to be optimistic about your future.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
