Facing issues related to trauma can be intimidating and scary, but Lorrie has seen Accelerated Resolution Therapy produce profound healing, for people who have experienced trauma, in a very short period of time.
Lorrie Belnap is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Utah who has been practicing since 2002. Life can be hard. It's even harder when you have a history of trauma. Lorrie does a therapy called Accelerated Resolution Therapy that has shown significant resolution of trauma related symptoms in as little as one to three sessions. It doesn't work for everyone, but if you can recall painful experiences that you've had and hold an image in your mind while focusing on sensations in your body, it will likely work for you.

I find that understanding fear, conflict, and trauma and how we respond to them have tremendous influence on our well being. Having traveled the road to recovery I know much of the terrain and I want to help others to navigate the path from despair to peace. I focus my work on depression, anxiety, gender, religious, and trauma problems. I have certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. and use Internal Family principles and techniques.

I love working with adults, teens, and pre-teens from all cultures and continuums who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and more.
I’ve worked as a social worker with individuals and families in Utah for many years, and I feel honored to have been invited into people’s stories to be a participant in their healing and growth. As we live our lives, we’re presented with unexpected situations that can be overwhelming. Difficulties come from conditions in our bodies, sometimes from our relationships, and sometimes from our life circumstances. My clinical training and professional experience, and my own life challenges have taught me to enjoy each individual as a uniquely incredible human with boundless potential to overcome adversity and thrive.

As a therapist group, we focus on restoring balance to daily life. It is our belief that trauma inhibits our ability to function to full capacity. Trauma reactions often create issues such as addiction, avoidance, anger, and panic. We utilize a simple method to reduce trauma reactions to triggers which creates a better balance in life, work, relationships, and self. We offer telehealth on a secure HIPPA-compliant platform for new and existing clients. All paperwork and payments can be performed via the telehealth platform.

We will learn to notice your past/present pain, then through various trauma modalities we will learn to remove the pain/emotion without changing the memory.
In the Disney Movie, The Lion King, Rafiki the wise monkey says, “Oh yes, the past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it.” Being an avid Harry Potter, Disney fan has taught me a lot of things in my life. I have been a therapist for over 10 + years. I specialize in all types of traumas (i.e. family or origins, bullying, chronic health, divorce, adjustment issues, life change, grief, to all types of abuse and harm), depression, addiction, and anxiety. I work with individuals, families, couples, the LGTBQIA+ community, first responders/military, and ages 6-96+.

My entire career has been focused on working with those struggling with eating disorders and/or trauma history.
I firmly believe there is a function to our behavior. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes not. And sometimes, while our behavior made sense at one time, maybe even to the point of saving our life, it is no longer serving us. We're all just doing the best that we can but sometimes the way we're coping leads to highly negative impacts on our body, mind, spirit, & relationships. A wise mentor once shared with me that our capacity for change comes from our ability (and willingness) to reflect. I seek to empower my clients to gain the tools and self-awareness they need in order to cultivate a sense of peace and personal agency.

My name is Carlos. If you are on this page, I would guess you’re looking for a therapist for yourself or a loved one. I am the owner and operator of Trauma Treatment & Counseling, LLC. I opened my practice with a focus to help people heal from their traumas. As the practice grew, I shifted my focus into the training and development of an amazing clinical team of therapists. I shared my knowledge and helped them to grow in myriad ways. For a time, I had closed my caseload entirely so I could focus on the development of my team members. I am now opening my caseload again to continue my original passion as a healer.

Therapy is about creating a space for you to explore and express all the parts of yourself without judgement or shame. Let's make that space together. Take a load off, relax, breathe, and tell me all about it. Let's untangle the problem together and find the path to the life you deserve.

I specialize in trauma, domestic abuse and addiction. I also help clients that struggle with depression, anxiety, relational issues and interpersonal struggles. I use a comprehensive, integrative approach to healing (EMDR) as well as CBT, DBT and Mindful practices.EMDR is a systematic process of healing that promotes emotional stability by helping to free the mind from past thoughts, memories and behaviors that are present in daily life. The mindful approach to emotional healing works through conscious change in perspective. Being consciously aware of unconscious thoughts helps in the process of change. This mindful practice changes how you view yourself and the world around you.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
