I love working with adults, teens, and pre-teens from all cultures and continuums who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and more.
I’ve worked as a social worker with individuals and families in Utah for many years, and I feel honored to have been invited into people’s stories to be a participant in their healing and growth. As we live our lives, we’re presented with unexpected situations that can be overwhelming. Difficulties come from conditions in our bodies, sometimes from our relationships, and sometimes from our life circumstances. My clinical training and professional experience, and my own life challenges have taught me to enjoy each individual as a uniquely incredible human with boundless potential to overcome adversity and thrive.

I like to come at therapy kind of like I would a drummer at a jam session. I'm there to find a groove with another voice. I want to communicate with you and help you to open up and learn to express yourself. We will seek understanding first and then we will find a way to encourage healing and growth that is unique to you and builds a stronger identity. I am strengths-based and I like to find existing skills to help a client build a new way of thinking and interacting with their body. This is also a very effective way of beginning the process of healing symptoms of PTSD in conjunction with other evidence based trauma treatments.

I work with clients with a number of presenting issues, including parent-child concerns, partner relational issues, family dysfunction, depression, trauma, attachment issues, anxiety, behavioral issues, and pervasive developmental disorders.
Life can be amazing, but it can also be extremely difficult at times. We so often get stuck waiting and hoping for things to just "get better," and feel paralyzed and hopeless to do anything about our current situation. Challenges like depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship conflict only serve to exacerbate that heavy, stuck feeling. At Pathways Therapy, my goal is to help you focus on your "here and now," empowering you to have more control and influence over creating the pathway that will lead you the future you want.

I have experience working with the military, with trauma, with conflict, and with skill building.
Therapist focusing on trauma, skill building, and mediation. I believe mental health is simple, yet it can be frustrating because it is also complex. Too often we look for magical or quick fixes for problems when the solutions are very common. Usually it is a number of things that create the problem, not just one contributor and often our society treats the symptom not the cause. As a society we should be focusing on preventative health, getting in front of the problem, and not waiting until it has already occurred to seek help. Having said that... there is always a solution, it just may not be what you expected.

I enjoy working with people who are going through shame. I believe that shame is something that is widely prevalent today, but due to the very nature of shame we are too fearful to talk about it or let it slip that we are struggling with who we are. I also have a passion working with people who are struggling in their relationships with their partners or spouses. I love doing couples counseling and helping to re-establish the love and trust that was once there.

We ‌like‌ ‌to‌ ‌meet‌ ‌people‌ ‌where‌ ‌they‌ ‌are. ‌Trauma can sometimes leave us wondering‌ ‌“what‌ ‌is‌ ‌wrong‌ ‌with‌ me?“ We believe a better question is‌ ‌“what‌ ‌happened‌ ‌to‌ ‌you?” ‌In our practice, we view clients in that way. ‌Everyone‌ ‌has‌ ‌a‌ ‌story,‌ ‌a‌ ‌story‌ ‌that‌ ‌makes‌ ‌them‌ ‌unique. ‌Our interest is in understanding what the story is and how to use a‌ ‌story‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌strength‌ ‌rather‌ ‌than‌ ‌a‌ ‌fault. ‌Even though it seems easier said than done, and it also takes time, we believe any client, from kids to adults, can get there with patience and understanding. Play therapy helps that healing process.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
