I use a trauma informed approach to therapy, as well as EMDR, CBT, and DBT to help individuals address trauma, anxiety, self worth issues, and challenge negative thinking to build strength and resilience.
So often we find ourselves with negative thoughts and beliefs about ourselves, others, or the world around us that hold us back from understanding or seeing who we really are and what we can become. I seek to help individuals break down their negative and distorted thinking so they can see themselves and the world around them in a more healthy and positive way. I enjoy working with young adults and older teenagers who struggle with a range of anxiety, depression, and negative views of self.

I specialize in working with individuals with trauma and anxiety but love working with couples and relationship issues.
You deserve to be heard. You deserve to take up space. Showing up is the hardest part, so kudos to you for being here and looking around. It takes courage to ask for support, especially when you're used to handling everything on your own. Maybe you’ve tried therapy before but it wasn't helpful. Maybe it was painful to stir up the past and difficult to put overwhelming emotions into words. I can support you differently—using yoga, art, play, EMDR, and nature to enhance traditional talk therapy. Together, you will learn to heal and create the life you’ve been longing for.

Trauma is the easiest hurdle to overcome and is therefore my first focus.
My typical client is seeking relief from their painful past, however recent or remote, and a clearer path in the present and future. That includes mostly individuals, but also many couples that are looking to repair relationships, harmed by individual trauma or other circumstances.

My approach is trauma-informed and person-centered with an eclectic style.
Have you ever felt ashamed? Ever felt like others don’t understand you, but say they do? Those have been my own experiences and have led me to work with people in recovery and their families, survivors of domestic violence/abuse, minority communities and teens. I come from a multi-cultural family with an immigrant parent which has both enriched my life and created unique struggles for me. These experiences, however, have helped me empathize with a wide variety of people and situations. My goals are to support my clients as they navigate their struggles and find hope and strength within themselves.

Before practicing privately, I worked with women who were childhood sexual abuse survivors in a retreat and outpatient setting for two years. Therapy Utah was founded by leading experts in Betrayal Trauma and Sexual Addiction and has helped hundreds of individuals and couple take back their lives, relationships and peace of mind.
Change is possible, healing is possible. The right therapy will help give you the tools and the education to make needed changes in your life. One of the most successful tools that I have found in my clinical experience is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.). A.R.T. is an evidenced based eye movement therapy used to treat trauma, anxiety, depression, phobias, PTSD, relationship issues and grief. A compassionate space where you can implement new skills and research based treatments is the first step to change and healing.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
