I believe a healthy therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist is essential for change. In addition to developing and maintaining a healthy therapeutic relationship, I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients explore the narrative they are telling themselves and discover ways to re-tell the story in a positive way. I also utilize TF-CBT when working with children, teenagers and families who are navigating trauma. I use a variety of Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI) to assist families in connecting, correcting and empowering their children.

I have experience working with pregnancy and postpartum transitions, couples, multicultural/first generation experiences, women’s issues, ADHD, trauma, self-esteem/perfectionism, and take a special interest in railroad families.
Hi there! I’m Susana. My passion for mental health work comes from my own experiences trying to reclaim my identity while navigating life’s obstacles. Our life experiences, culture, background, and relationship with ourselves and our mental health are incredibly unique and personal. This is why I enjoy getting to know my clients and finding an approach that works best for their needs rather than sticking to a “one size fits all” approach.

The program at this Symetria clinic goes beyond traditional therapy to treat everything hiding behind the drugs or alcohol - all while still living at home! Treatment here helps you rebalance your brain, create healthy thought patterns and heal underlying issues (like trauma, anxiety, depression or family conflict).
Don't settle for a generic drug and alcohol therapist. You deserve help that actually helps you feel happy again. (And, that's in-network with your insurance).

Life can bring about many challenges and we often feel the need to take them on alone. Life presents us with obstacles that at times seem impossible to overcome. These life challenges, when left unaddressed, can take on a life of their own. This means we feel caught between the life we want to live and the life we are currently living. As the master of our lives, we have the power within us to conquer any obstacles that we face and are able to reach our full potential when we are willing to seek help during difficult and uncertain times. Finding your inner peace is closer than you think.

The ideal therapy patient for my practice is someone who desires to make deep, sometimes difficult, and long-lasting changes. Many patients have been in counseling before and have yet to realize the improvements they desire. The types of problems my patients bring to therapy are often a complicated mix of specific symptoms and unsatisfying relationships. I provide a different approach to therapy than many psychologists. While popular therapy models like, CBT, REBT, DBT, and EMDR are powerful and helpful, Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy is the treatment of choice for personality disorders and complicated conditions.

Hello, I'm M.L. I believe as humans we all want something similar, to feel normal. We want, desire, and try our best to feel like everyone else. Yet, simultaneously we desire to be unique, special, and individualistic. I believe it is necessary to think of humans as puzzle pieces in order to fulfill both. While the pieces share the same geographical space as well as have the same manufacturer, they are unique and serve varying purposes. Do you belong at the top but are content being a side piece? Are you on the bottom when you were meant to be at the center of it all? Let's collaborate and find out where you belong.

My primary experience has been working with adolescents and teens. However, I find many of those same principles can successfully be applied in our adulthood. In connecting with clients, I support your self-esteem and self-discovery through a Christian perspective. Life can be a challenge at times and there is no judgement or shame seeking out therapy. Congratulations on taking the first step and acknowledging the importance of your mental health!

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
