As a marriage and family therapist, I view therapy from a systemic perspective. This means that my focus is not on individuals, but on relationships. The focus of treatment from this perspective is on interactions within systems, such as family and society, even when working with an individual. I believe effective therapy is based on faith that every individual or family has the ability to affect change within their own relationships. While I encourage clients to bring important relationships into therapy, I am qualified to work with clients one-on-one.

Are you ready to heal from trauma or grief, set personal boundaries, gain coping skills and improve relationships? If you answered "yes," welcome! As your therapist, we will work together to set goals to achieve healing and mental wellness. This collaboration is one of importance as healing and self-betterment are difficult to achieve on your own. Remember- healing is not linear. As we uncover your authentic-self, you will come to find peace within yourself that no one can take away from you. My goal is to empower you to discover all you are meant to be.

As a professional counselor, I believe in the power of each individual to overcome barriers that prevent their life pathway from taking a more positive direction. I am invested in creating a calm and safe haven where growth and improvement can occur. Using a person-centered approach requires understanding the perspective patients have about issues in their lives to foster open, honest communication within a therapeutic relationship. When people feel comfortable expressing their emotions, an effective counselor is able to gain knowledge of how that person views their problems.

Let's see what's not quite right, then, most importantly, what does better look like. Most of my clients want to look forward, not backward- seems reasonable. Some situations are harder than others to turn around but let's get started. More good- Less bad.

Most of my clients come to therapy because they are struggling with how they think and feel about themselves and their relationships. What most discover, is the importance of the relationship they have with Self. They come to accept that the most important relationship to cultivate and grow is the one with themselves. If this sounds familiar or makes some things in your living make sense, when you're ready, let's talk!

Life is an incredible journey with many twists and turns. This is your story and you have the ability to write something beautiful. Sometimes, as our story is unfolding, things happen that start to make us feel broken inside. Our fears can become like the monsters of childhood, scaring us into believing we are not good enough, or that we don’t deserve to be happy. We can become stuck in the past leading to depression or preoccupied with the future leading to worry and anxiety. The truth is – we can only change what happens today, at this moment. Maybe you feel isolated, alone, or like you have lost your way. I have been there.

As a relationship therapist, LMFT, and doctoral MFT student, helping relationships thrive is my ultimate goal. In addition to Family Systems work, I utilize Solution-Focused Therapy to stabilize day-to-day life and design a preferred future. Once a safe environment is established we will explore the root of the traumas. We will re-evaluate boundaries and increase self-confidence and self-validation with the development of strong coping skills and self-soothing techniques. I guide my clients out of survival mode to living in the present. I include psychotherapeutic yoga, CBT, DBT, attachment, and neuropsychology. I am EMDR trained.

Accepting new clients! There's a reason they say "It takes a village to raise a child." Let's be honest, raising little humans is one of life's biggest challenges. I proudly serve children (3-17 yrs old) who may be struggling with big emotions & behaviors, developmental transitions, or child/adult mental health issues. Using a playful, client-centered & attachment-based approach, I can begin to understand & communicate with your child. I can actively support & guide them as s/he/they make sense of their feelings and behaviors.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
