I enjoy working with individuals to build better lives and relationships. I support individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, men's issues, anger issues, and stress management. For individuals who feel stuck and hopeless, I help provide support, understanding, perspective, and direction. There are so many difficulties in life that are out of our control, and I help individuals develop the resilience to endure the hardships of life.

I work with adults in all seasons of their life! I do trauma and grief therapy.
I currently live in East Tennessee with my wife of 20+ years and our three beautiful adult daughters and grandson (with 2 more grands on the way)! I am a graduate of Ole Miss and the University of Alabama. I have spent the last 8 years as a therapist in multiple settings and prior to that worked in the social work/child welfare field. I bring a unique personal therapeutic approach for adoptive and foster families. I also enjoy working with college students, individuals and couples. I see life as a journey and see therapy as a break to rest, recharge and refuel so that the journey may continue despite the bumps along the way.

Are you going through a life transition, experiencing stress, and have feelings of anxiety or depression? Or do you struggle with an addiction? Life can be tough and the stress can be difficult deal with. It is not uncommon for this to make us feel isolated, alone, downhearted, and distressed. Imagine if you didn't have to feel this way. It can be a challenge, but people can feel healthy, happy, and "better".

You want more than just feeling better - you want to create a better life for yourself and those you love - but you're stuck. You want to get closer to who and how you want to be. You've tried everything you can think of and you still feel bad - physically, spiritually, mentally. What would you be doing if anxiety, panic, sadness, lack of motivation, anger, or confusion wasn't standing in your way? If difficult conversations happened without ending in a blow up, shut down, or disconnection - could life be better together?

Coming to therapy always takes a lot of courage! Talking with someone about the things affecting us in our lives can be difficult. But, when the right steps are taken and we can see other ways to approach our problems, life can change. My goal as a therapist is to help people discover new ways to approach the difficult times in life and find alternative solutions. Ultimately, most people are seeking ways to have better relationships and feel a sense of contentment in life. Through individual, couples or family therapy I help people find these new ways of living.

Many of my clients are confronting a history of trauma, anxiety, or feelings of being overwhelmed.
My clients often begin therapy because they recognize a need for change. These realizations can be difficult to deal with, so I respect them. I am also excited by these moments because they are the beginning of the healing process. Through therapy, I help clients develop a greater understanding of who they are and what got them to this point in life. From there, we explore what their goals are, and we develop a plan to achieve these goals.

I specialize in inner healing by using Internal Family Systems, EMDR, and other trauma-informed approaches.
You’ve reached the point in your where you know that you need something else but what? There are so many paths to healing that it’s overwhelming  You know that inner healing is essential, but the mindfulness apps and counting to ten aren’t addressing the issues as promised by the experts on podcasts. You want to uncover the root of the big emotions within. You know the things that have helped in the past but just coping isn’t enough.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
