I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which is an intervention used to treat trauma.
Hi there, I'm Kati! I’ve been working in the field of mental health for over 7 years. My early experiences consisted of supporting children and adolescents in crisis. I’d like to say that these positions, as well as having my own life experiences, have given me an edge in understanding the complexities of mental health and the human experience. Over time, my care for helping others expanded to an enthusiasm for working with people of all ages. I currently work with ages 11 years old and up.

Dan uses a variety of therapeutic approaches including Motivational Interviewing, CBT, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and a patient-centered approach to address issues of anxiety, depression, inattention, and anger and to strengthen one’s coping skills to navigate life transitions.
Dan understands that the key to an effective and positive therapy experience is to first understand the individual. He further describes his role as a guide for those struggling with mental strife or unrest as they transition to a place of peace. He follows the adage by Irvin Yalom that “everything is grist for the therapy mill;” in that everyday events can help one to better understand circumstances and become empowered to manage the current situation.

I am passionate about trauma, depression, anxiety, LGBQT concerns, personality disorders, and neurodivergence. An ideal client is an individual who has a growth mindset and explores their thoughts and feelings and how they impact their behavior. They may not understand how those thoughts derived from past experiences, but they are willing to open old wounds given the right tools. They feel safe and secure and want to heal through hard work and determination.

I have been effectively supporting individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodivergence, and more for many years through art therapy and Somatic Experiencing (trauma healing) techniques, which regulates trauma from the nervous system in creative, effective ways.
You crave peace and normalcy again. But everywhere you turn, you find anxiety, overwhelm, and hopelessness staring you in the face. You feel like you are barely getting by each day, and hang on to the one shred of hope you have left, which seems to be fading with each new day and each new disappointment. You feel like you’ve tried everything- traditional talk therapy, yoga, self-help methods, spending time in nature, everything, but nothing has a lasting effect on the fear, exhaustion, and overwhelm you feel inside. You know soon something has to give. However, deep down you still have a shred of hope for something better.

Since trauma is stored in the body and not cognitive, I utilize psychodynamic modalities such as Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness and Somatic Processing to uncover root cause and empower clients to be their own agents of healing.
No matter the circumstances, the facts remain the same: our bodies are designed to keep us safe and reduce discomfort. Issues arise when we are no longer needing to seek safety yet unknowingly maintain these unhelpful patterns of beliefs and behaviors. Our unconscious attempts to insulate ourselves from harm turn into patterns that destroy the connections to ourselves and others that we desire most. My goal is to provide a therapeutic relationship for clients as they gain understanding and develop new beliefs and behaviors to transform their lives, reach their goals and have the relationships they ultimately desire.

I provide individual therapy for adults ages 18-65+, for clients in need of services for a range of concerns, including, but not limited to anxiety, depression, challenges within relationships, racial racial healing, stress, grief, and trauma.
I believe therapy should be tailored as a unique experience to fit the client, just as each client is unique. I see the process of therapy as holding a safe and sacred space, where a therapeutic alliance is built between client and therapist, enabling clients to express themselves authentically, share their struggles, create goals, and overcome obstacles; leading each person to be the best version of themselves. As a therapist, I strive to be there each step of the way providing competence, support, and encouragement, to not only overcome obstacles, but to also help you find meaning in the journey.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
