Hey! I’m Kayla, and I have a laidback and eclectic approach to therapy. If you’re looking for a strictly-xyz therapist, I’m not your girl. However, if sarcasm and cursing feels more comfortable for you, I might be a just who you’re looking for. I believe laughter is the best way to the heart, and very much needed for healing to begin. I really enjoy working with women and the queer community, especially around issues such as trauma, self-esteem, depression, and anxiety.

Life can be really hard when a death, loss, or traumatic event takes place. It can be especially hard to pick up the pieces and know how to move on from the event and find a "new normal". No matter who you are and no matter the dilemma; I am happy to serve you. My hope is to help you find happiness and purpose in life again. Through therapy, I will help you process the trauma and find a new normal when you are ready. Each individual processes a trauma on their own terms. It is up to you decide the pace of moving forward. I am here to support you.

Our clinical perspective is trauma informed, meaning that adverse life experiences shape who we are today and the beliefs we carry around about ourselves, others, and the world.
We enjoy working with clients who are open to understanding how adverse life experiences negatively impact thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and are ready to do the work of exploring these connections in therapy. We strive to build relationships with our clients based on the foundations of curiosity and empathy in a collaborative setting that is goal-oriented and relaxed, where their true self can be seen and feel accepted. Our overarching hope for clients is that through therapy they would believe they have inherent worth and value as human beings, apart from what they do, have, or what other people think and say about them.

I believe that “trauma is not what happens to us, but what we hold inside in the absence of an empathetic witness.” I work with those who have experienced various forms of trauma, including shock, developmental, medical, relational, and religious trauma. I also work with those experiencing forms of depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and those experiencing systemic and cultural forms of oppression. I believe that everyone has the right to a nurturing and supportive space, and strive towards the ongoing creation of an inclusive environment for all.

Whether it's stress, depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship or family concerns, the emotional toll of an illness or a trauma, I have a strong record of helping my clients achieve their mental health goals. I am eager to support your efforts to move forward, address your challenges, and lead a fuller life. Sometimes we feel stuck in our lives. It takes courage to admit that everything we have tried to get ourselves unstuck has not worked. It also takes courage to contact a therapist for the first time, or if you have been in counseling before, trying it again.

Fax: (380)235-2527 (to send /receive records 24/7) You may be feeling "not yourself," uncertain, stuck, or disoriented after a loss or realization. I specialize in supporting your healing process from a trauma informed and neurodivergent affirming lens.
There are so many of us who have felt like outsiders our entire lives, pretending to be someone else to fit in. It might be because of Neurodivergence (ADHD, Autism, CPTSD), or your body size or the traumas that have lead you to feel that no one would understand or accept who you really are. The truth is that changing to fit in isn't the solution. You deserve to accept who you are right now. You can learn more supportive ways of coping or communicating, but the essence of who you are is worthy and deserving of love.

Mental health is everything. It is an honor to have spent tens of thousands of hours with people in service of their mental wellness. In May of 2022 I attended a conference on innovative and emerging treatment modalities for trauma. One of those sessions addressed the use of ketamine infusions and I was bowled over. A year and half later, I am thrilled to be collaboratively opening MiNDSET Integrative Ketamine Care. Dr. David Caldwell is an extremely experienced anesthesiologist that is committed to changing people's lives. The practice I founded in 2014 is also remaining open! Reach out to us, we look forward to being of service

I have years of experience treating individuals in various settings, but I specialize in treating adults suffering with trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, life transitions, bipolar, and substance use.
I view individuals as experts on themselves and believe in working collaboratively with clients to develop meaningful goals and treatment plans unique to them. I am passionate about increasing one’s sense of belonging and connection, quality of life, and effective coping skills. I utilize Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) techniques, Person-Centered Therapy, and Existential approaches most frequently: however, I am confident with other evidence-based approaches to tailor to client’s needs.

We all carry around so much. From the expectations of daily life, to difficult experiences from our past that leave us feeling stuck, to worries about what the future holds. We all have times in our life that we need someone to help us unburden and lighten the load from our past experiences in order to be our healthiest self. Let's work together to feel lighter and less burdened by stress, grief, loss, trauma, anxiety, and depression while we discover what wellness can look like in your life.

I am trained in in the areas of somatic therapy and the contextual and behavioral sciences including mindfulness, body-oriented trauma resolution, embodied boundaries and communication, the experiential arts, and transpersonal-based modalities.
The easiest way to schedule is through my website and the best contact is email. Change, although inevitable, can be difficult and feel ruthless especially when life takes a turn you don't expect. We can start feeling lost, alone and out of touch with ourselves and those around us. Each of us are vulnerable to the pain, grief and the uncertainty of the human condition. In this way, I believe we can each benefit from a safe and non-judgmental space that allows us to put our guard down and encourages us to learn, be flexible and rest more fully into the natural process of simply being ourselves and listening to our own wounds.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
