I believe the purpose of psychotherapy is to ease emotional and relationship difficulties and increase satisfaction in life. Clients come to therapy with diverse needs, but typically they are seeking help either to deal with immediate life crises or to address ongoing challenges. In my practice these have included issues of anxiety and depression; bereavement; effects of trauma; parenting and relationship concerns; and varied behavior problems. I see both children and adults and have a subspecialty in couples counseling. For psychotherapeutic techniques to be successful they must be adapted to the client's unique needs and circumstances.
My work integrates a number of therapeutic approaches, respecting the traditions of depth psychology as well as valuing newer methods which have proven to be effective, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I have a generally interactive style.
In addition to private practice, I was an administrator and director of training at an adult mental health clinic for many years.
