I use evidenced based practice tools to address symptoms of mental health disorders including Depression, Anxiety, PTSD & many other experiences that can take one by surprise.
Pregnancy can be one of the most wonderful and stressful times in a woman’s life with enormous changes in family dynamics and relationships. Whether a new parent or care taker, or experiencing the tragedy of interrupted pregnancy or loss, expectations for a new mother can be very high and too often dismissive of the unique stressors involved with making a new human. When unpredicted changes happen, people can feel alone, isolated, and afraid to give voice to their vulnerabilities. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with extensive experience in working with the perinatal and first responder population. PSI certified.

Through helping my clients to understand the basic neurobiological underpinnings of their symptoms, we begin to reduce shame and develop secure attachment within the therapeutic relationship. Using a collaborative, integrative approach we work together to specifically address how stress and trauma presents for you. My preferred approach offers neuroscience based interventions that focus on regulation of the areas of the brain most impacted by cumulative/relational trauma, including breath work, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and EMDR.

With extensive clinical work, my focus is the person, whether you're struggling with trauma, addiction, or difficult life transitions.
Are you experiencing memories of traumatic events that are impacting your life in a negative manner? Does it feel like the pain and self blame you are feeling will never go away? Are you struggling with feelings of hopelessness, grieving over the loss of a loved one, or experiencing difficulties in your relationships? Have you tried to solve the problems in your life on your own and realized you need help from someone else? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you have made the right choice by visiting. It is understandable it is hard. You've likely been debating seeking help for months, if not years.

If you have a history of adverse life experiences, we can utilize EMDR to help you process the trauma and move forward.
Are you going through a significant life transition or dealing with loss? Maybe you are questioning your choices and consider yourself an "overthinker". Have you found yourself not participating in activities you used to enjoy? It feels like things are going well, but you are not feeling content. These are common issues rhe individuals I work with. I want to support you in reaching your goals and increasing your ability to handle the stressors in your life. You are able to make the necessary changes and find success, allow me to help you discover and tap into your potential to create the life you want.

Trauma based therapy helps us clean out obstacles and develop mindfulness to achieve this goal.
My treatment will guide you through a healing process that makes a difference. I use Natural Processing (somatically based EMDR) among other psycho-therapeutic approaches. Natural Processing is an effective intervention, focused on changing unconscious automatic nervous system responses. We will be working with a deep connection to your somatic/bodily experience while you are processing stressful memories. These results cannot be achieved through talk therapy alone. It allows us to shed problematic response patterns and lets functional and adaptive responses emerge. It is a powerful and lasting intervention.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
