I specialize in working with people who have experienced trauma and am certified by the state of Michigan in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
Currently accepting new clients! The first step to healing is the step you are taking now. Deciding to enter therapy can be intimidating. I meet people where they are as they take this important step. I know how difficult it can be to juggle all that life expects of us while experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, or emotional distress. Whether it’s unwanted thoughts, healing from a past trauma, or feeling stuck in your relationships, you are not alone. I provide a warm and safe space, free of judgment, to explore your past in order to make sense of the present and work toward a more fulfilling future. You can feel better!

I am passionate about working through a trauma-informed lens to uncover how these experiences can impact our mind and body.
Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. Brene Brown once said, “Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness”. Our experiences in life can sometimes leave us feeling sad, angry, confused, lost, and everything in between. Whether you’re struggling with experiences of trauma, depression, anxiety, loss, any relational conflicts, or school difficulties, I’m here to walk alongside you on a path towards vulnerability and compassion for all parts of you. Instead of being who you’ve had to be (because trauma), this journey can bring you to who you’re meant to be.

I have dealt with anxiety, depression, trauma, body image issues, and so many other things in my personal life.
If you've been struggling with life and circumstances, you are not alone. I applaud you for seeking out help with your challenges because it means that you are brave (stepping outside of your comfort zone) and that you have made the decision to do something about your mental health (also brave). I work with many survivors of various trauma and I am trained in EMDR. If you need a good listener, somebody who is in your life to support you, somebody who is not afraid to encourage you to take control of your circumstances and mindset, and someone who can provide insight and education about mental health, I would love to meet with you!

I am a Trauma & Anxiety therapist.
You are feeling overwhelmed, stuck in the past, & uncertain about the future. Maybe you’ve experienced a traumatic event, or you find yourself in cycles, no matter how hard you try to break them. You feel flooded with emotion, triggered by your surroundings, & exhausted from fighting through each day. As much as you try to push away upsetting thoughts & memories, they continue to creep back into your awareness. It seems like worry is following you like a shadow, spilling over into your relationships, your professional life, & even your overall health. This leaves you feeling alone as you put on a happy face for the world around you.

I work primarily with women who struggle with anxiety/panic, trauma, burnout, grief/loss and relationship stressors. I specialize in working with college students and people in helping professions such as healthcare, social work/counseling, or teaching. Many of my clients would also describe themselves as stressed out, overextended, and have often been called "too sensitive" by people in their lives. In a time when 'busy-ness' and productivity have become the norm, I offer a safe space to slow down, breathe, and be heard. Please visit my website for more information: www.KatherineListerLMSW.com

I provide an eclectic approach, primarily utilizing behavioral, humanistic, psycho-spiritual, and inner child modalities – with a specialization in complex trauma, shadow work, generational patterns, and the journey to authenticity. My practice is person-centered, meaning that I’m a guide in your exploration of self – I may be nudging and pointing things out, but you, as the client, are ultimately leading where we go. My goal is to enrich and point out the positive traits that you already possess, and offer acknowledgment into aspects of yourself or your circumstances that you maybe haven’t seen yet.

I treat depression, anxiety, addictions, complex trauma, attachment, parenting and marital connection.
Everyone deserves to have a good day and a better tomorrow. I realize that taking on a personal change out of desire or necessity is often harder than it sounds. I work with all ages, life-stages, and conditions. People arrive with their bag of “stuff”: hopes, disappointments, wounds, trauma, diagnoses, and connections. I start where you are and work with you to create a path to a place of well-being.

I work with survivors of trauma, and help to guide couples working towards a stronger connection.
I have a deep passion for community development, culture diversity and human connection. In my experience my clients know themselves better than anyone, they are their own best resource when it comes to choosing the right treatment for them. I see our time together as a joint venture, our knowledge combined creates the solutions and tools needed to uncover patterns and emotions they may not even be aware of. I know that no single approach is the right one for every individual. My role as a therapist is to support you to make choices that empower you, and help you explore and resolve your current predicaments, or diagnosis.

I have been privileged to work in the social work field since 2008 in a variety of settings, with a strong focus on the treatment of trauma.
Welcome. I am so happy you are here. As humans we are extremely resilient and adaptive to our surroundings. At times, this can be a gift and it can also lead us on a path that is no longer serving us. Therapy has the potential to change the quality of our lives, as well as for those around us, for generations to come. I specialize in guiding people back to themselves, while setting the conditions for healing to take place. Given the right conditions our bodies and minds can heal. You already carry everything you need from within. My approach is rooted in authenticity, compassion, and client empowerment.

While I work with people experiencing a range of presenting concerns, most specifically, I am a trauma-informed professional.
Starting or returning to counseling often means that you are facing a challenge that does not have a simple solution. Sharing what is on your mind may be a relief, but for many people, it is also anxiety provoking. Whether your concerns are present-focused or have roots in the past, we can create a space where you can process and grow through the obstacles you are facing. Areas in which I have special knowledge include trauma, anxiety, and life transitions. I currently offer talk therapy, EMDR, and EMDR intensives. During sessions, you can expect me to express empathetic understanding, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness.

I love working with individuals of all ages and struggles. I have been in the counseling field for over 25 years and enjoy the partnership of working together to find a solution. Throughout the years I have spent much time researching and attending trainings to learn how to best handle stress. Stress and trauma have a significant impact on our bodies and many traditional strategies may not work; if they don't, I use health, spirituality, and energy medicine to impact change. I focus on health and positive psychology. We work on new techniques right in the office. - Also providing clinical supervision for LLPCs.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
