I have training and experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, couples (including non-monogamy), families, children and teens, substance use, mood disorders, co-occurring disorders, grief, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (including infertility and miscarriage) and life transitions.
My goal as a therapist is to help others learn about and understand their issues in a safe and open environment. Seeking out help can be scary and stressful, and my hope is to make people feel comfortable addressing their concerns without feeling judged. Therapy is a unique and personal experience, and I provide empathy, active listening, and various interventions to match each person’s needs and goals. I use a mixture of therapeutic techniques to help individuals identify the issues they would like to focus on and to develop goals. I believe goal setting and providing tools to cope are imperative to success in therapy.

Feeling lost and not sure where to turn? Have you endured distressing relationships or incidents of sexual assault? Maybe you feel alone, isolated and misunderstood. Are you tired of encountering bureaucratic hurdles within the system and your trauma stunting your ability to become who you are meant to be? Do you often find yourself burdened by uncertainty regarding future events, or constantly protecting others at the expense of your own emotional well-being?

Change may not be easy, however, you don't have to take part in that journey alone. Starting therapy can be hard, yet the results could be life changing. I may be of help If your child is a preteen struggling with anxiety, depression, self-harm, or behavioral issues, you are a parent wanting more support, you are an adult struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, a phobia, insomnia, and more.

I have a passion for working with children and adult survivors of abuse/neglect/trauma.
Life is a journey! On the journey of life we can encounter "roadblocks". If you feel you have run into a "roadblock" in your life, counseling can help you to work through your emotions, to learn new coping skills, and to recognize your strengths. In counseling sessions, we can work together on issues, such as, communication skills, self-esteem, assertive skills, parenting skills, anger management skills, coping skills, and anxiety. I have experience working with individuals who are initially unsure of the counseling process.

I have worked with children, teens, young adults, and adults, as a practitioner of DBT,and CBT, supportive therapies, and multiple trauma modalities such as Prolonged Exposure, Traumatic Incident Reduction, TF-CBT, and Cognitive Processing Therapy.
Living a “life worth living” can seem like a path only others get to travel, while our journey feels unfair, exceedingly difficult, or at times impossible. At times we discover that our struggles are the result of the choices we made, or the choices others have made that affect us. At other times, we unknowingly hold onto faulty beliefs about ourselves or others, living as if they are true or accurate. To cope, we develop strategies to make the journey seem more doable. They can indeed be helpful and carry us toward our goals, or be the very obstacle that prevents us from achieving our potential.

Therapy should help you get better. My goal is to help clients move through difficult situations and make changes in their lives that contribute positively to their health. While I am a certified complex trauma therapist and specialize in treating combat related PTSD, I have also helped clients struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and infidelity. As a coach, I help clients to achieve personal goals such as losing weight or managing anger. Some people are wary of seeing a therapist, but my straight forward approach and focus on finding solutions has been an attractive option for even the most hesitant clients.

I specialize in guiding people back to themselves, while setting the conditions for healing to take place. Given the right conditions our bodies and minds can heal. Hi! Do you struggle with low self-esteem? You may find yourself making negative comments about yourself, being overly self-critical, or blaming yourself for things that go wrong. I help women struggling with low self-esteem grow their love and acceptance for themselves so that they can reduce anxiety and feel at peace within. Many of us struggle with a harsh inner critic telling us that we're not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, etc. In sessions, I focus on creating an emotionally safe space so that together, we can work towards your goals of quieting the inner critic and growing your self-esteem so you feel good enough!

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
