I specialize in issues related to trauma, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem.
Welcome! Life can be challenging at times, for grownups and for children, and the past few years have been especially so, with the pandemic, social distancing, the significant disruptions to routines and relationships that these have caused, and heated divisions at home and abroad. Some who previously had no mental health concerns have found themselves feeling anxious or depressed. Others who already struggled with stress and worries, have found their anxiety increased so much that it interferes with their daily lives.

Life does not have to look the same for everyone and I recognize that there are many different ways in which we can live a healthy, fulfilling life. It can feel isolating at times when we are trying to navigate the various changes and obstacles that come our way. I enjoy working in collaboration with my clients to identify their personal strengths and utilize them to bring about positive changes in their lives. I do so by employing various therapeutic techniques in an empathetic, inclusive and trauma-informed manner that is personal to the client's needs and concerns.

I am passionate about working with women who are experiencing life changes, anxiety, trauma, general stress, transition, and/or interpersonal conflict.
Therapy is a wonderful opportunity for personal growth, self-discovery, and positive change. It can be scary to ask for help, but with a therapist who is the right fit, real improvements can be achieved. I work from a trauma-informed approach, and believe that looking at both our past and our present circumstances can provide a lot of insight into times we're feeling stuck. Utilizing warmth, empathy, humor, and tangible practices to affect change, I look forward to each session with each client to assist them on their journey to self-discovery.

Much of who we are today is the result of life events that left us feeling helpless, alone or broken. Some of those wounds if they go unchecked may cause us to rely on unhealthy coping mechanisms, a loud inner critic and/or a self rejection part. Unlearning some of these mechanisms is part of the healing journey. I invite curiosity, careful reflection while honoring your knowledge and wisdom to heal. I use various clinical treatment approaches from trauma informed framework, relational attachment, emotion focused to spiritual/Christian faith/based.

We live in extremely stressful times. You might be experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD for the first time. Individuals may need support to address their symptoms in order to maintain a healthy baseline of functioning. I believe that people are resilient and have the answers within but often need assistance uncovering them. The process of being mindful of emotions and behaviors, while learning to be present, can lead to a sense of regulation and acceptance.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
