Before becoming a psychologist, I served for three years as a combat medic; this experience helped shape my professional direction and my special interest in working with veterans and treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
My clinical approach weaves together the science and art of psychotherapy, and rests on two main principles. First, I am committed to doing what works: I draw on the latest clinical research to provide treatments rooted in a range of conceptual frameworks that are well supported by scientific evidence. Second, I recognize and honor individual differences: I use creativity and skill to design treatments that align with each client's unique needs and experiences.

I often uses a hybrid of multiple theoretical orientations, primarily drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Trauma-focused therapy, and Person-centered therapy.
Opening up to another individual about your mental health concerns and the pain you’ve experienced throughout your life is never easy. Stepping forward and admitting that you’re struggling is such a difficult step, so kudos to you for considering counseling. I work from a person centered perspective to meet you where you are in life, while keeping your mental health goals in mind. I’m a strong believer that our wellness is rooted not only in our experiences, but in our physical, spiritual, and emotional health as well.I approach every therapeutic relationship with an open mind and tailor my therapeutic approach to each client.

Trauma, PTSD, eating disorders, anxiety, and bipolar disorder are some of my specialties.
The most important aspect of my work as a therapist is the relationship between therapist and client. This allows the therapuetic alliance to be formed. My focus is on teaching adults and seniors new coping skills and life skills to help alleviate their symptoms of depression, anxiety, fears or phobias. I also help people who are struggling with traumatic memories using EMDR as a treatment modality. I have been trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy, teaching one to change existing thought processes thus leading to positive thinking and coping skills. I use a holistic bio-psycho-social model which incorporates mindfulness therapy using relaxation techniques.

I completed IFS Advanced Training which is particularly effective in helping with issues of trauma, shame, and dealing with a difficult or chaotic childhood.
As a psychologist with over thirty years of experience, I continue to be inspired by helping hundreds of clients break away from the fear, worry and despair that once defined them, and create the lives that they hoped for. In addition to psychodynamic therapy I have trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy and Emtionally Focused Couple Therapy. Using these tools I have helped clients move toward more inner peace and hope. My profession offers me a unique gift to be part of their journey towards healthier relationships, thoughts, and behavior.

I believe in an integrative and holistic approach to help clients find balance in their daily lives. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma or other challenges in your life, it is possible to work through it with someone who can offer skillful support and guidance. The goal that people say they most want; is to feel better, or that they want things to be different. It is possible for healing to occur and to work on issues that are hard to deal with in the right space. Change is possible and attainable.

I tend to work with people alleviating trauma symptoms, navigating life changes, easing anxieties and depression, exploring identity, and mending relationships.
I focus on creating a safe and collaborative relationship. I base my work in the belief that we are affected by relationships- how we relate to others, our world, and our self. When we feel a safe connection in these areas, there seems to be more peace in the present. We may tend to feel more resilient when facing stress and change. When we feel disconnected, parts of us can feel stuck in anger, fear, criticism, or sadness. Our emotional well-being and relationships may become distressed. Therapy can be a way to navigate painful emotions, connect more deeply, and awaken qualities of confidence, creativity, and compassion.

I offer presence and connection to support couples and individuals towards greater authenticity and fulfillment. I understand well the tremendous capacity for the psyche to accommodate unresolved trauma by intricate and patterned coping means. This tempers my approach towards one of gentle courage with clients. Together we learn to find a pacing that creates safety for making contact with what hurts. I am deeply interested in supporting the recognition of your intrinsic capacity to grow towards wholeness. This occurs through dialogue, active processing of emotions, and encountering your truth in the present.

My focus is working with anxiety, depression, trauma, self esteem and self image.
At times an individual may want extra support to talk about and or explore areas in their life that are causing stress: It can lead to anxiety, depression, mood changes, substance use, compulsive behaviors, and anger. If anyone of these emotional or behavioral issues become significant it can affect relationships, education, finances or day to day functioning. In session, the individual will examine past, present and future experiences that impact thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. There are appropriate and inappropriate ways to better cope with stressors in our life and in session the client will examine which strategies work best.

Specializing in PTSD/Anxiety/Depression, I work to facilitate your body's innate healing response through possible EMDR, CBT & Eclectic applications.
Welcome! In this very moment you're choosing to be on your journey. My therapeutic philosophy is to facilitate and support your body's innate healing response through the applications of EMDR, (EMDRIA.ORG) and heart-centered therapies. EMDR in particular works to liberate clients from past trauma memories whether that be small "t" trauma or big 'T" trauma and to transform a person's subconscious beliefs thus "turning down the volume" on negative memories/negative beliefs and transforming those subconscious beliefs back into positive core beliefs so that you may become your highest aspect of yourself.

My approach is attachment-based and trauma responsive.
In my work with individuals and couples, I engage in each therapeutic relationship with a warm, reflective, and grounding presence. I believe firmly in the worthiness of all to a sense of belonging, dignity, and agency and have witnessed time and again how therapy can be a powerful tool in accessing these needs. Being heard and understood within a supportive therapy environment allows us to both uncover our innate strengths and cultivate the skills and insight necessary to reduce suffering. Regardless of how ingrained and automatic our patterns might be and how stuck we might feel, a more peaceful life is possible for each of us.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
