Parenting a child with baffling and challenging behaviors can be lonely and isolating. When I adopted my own children, I just wanted to be a mom. I thought that love was enough. The reality is, these children have suffered enormous loss and trauma and often display challenging behaviors. I am blessed that I am able to walk alongside families on their path to healing and share what I have learned. I have been a pediatric critical care nurse for 19 years. I have spent my career helping children and their families during what was most likely one of the most challenging and stressful times in their lives.

You’ve poured your heart and soul into creating a family, and your heart is breaking. Anger and defiance erupt when you want love and peace. If you are struggling in your family relationships, we can work together to help your family move from surviving to thriving.

I typically work with children, adolescents and families, through various worries including trauma, anxiety, and depression among others.
Choosing yourself is a difficult thing to do at times, but I am so glad you are here! I know in the beginning it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but through each session I hope that light becomes closer within your reach. While healing is never linear, it is something we all have the power to do, with the tools we learn in session. It is my goal to make you feel confident in your abilities and supported through each step and by the last session I hope you believe in yourself the way I do.

I have worked with survivors of trauma for ten years. As a child survivor of narcissistic and abusive parents myself, I have fallen in love with the work of assisting survivors on their own path to safety, healing, and even joy! I specialize in survivors of narcissistic abuse, especially within adult children of narcissistic parents and intimate partners of narcissists. Having a Narcissist parent/partner is something you can only truly understand if you have experienced it personally, and it is my mission in life to use my own experiences and knowledge to help YOU understand and heal from the impacts of this kind of abuse.

I love working with clients who are motivated to make meaningful change in their lives. So many of us carry old stories about ourselves that we have outgrown or that were never really true in the first place. You can expect a non-judgmental atmosphere to explore what is true for you & what you really want for your life. I use trauma-sensitive care when working through prior wounds.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
