You are allowed to go to therapy even if your life is perfect on paper. Therapy can be intimidating but it doesn’t have to be. I realize that no two people or situations are the same and as such I tailor my therapy to meet the specific needs of my clients. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression or trauma processing.

I use a holistic, health at every size, integrative, trauma-informed approach to therapy, as no one person is the same.
Do you find that you regularly battle with your body and brain? Second guessing what to say, ashamed of your body, and judgmental of your thoughts? Do you utilize food to avoid emotionally or to force your body into a different look? Is trauma impacting your relationships? You are not alone. Health is not a static place to achieve that defines who you are as a person, rather it is a continuum we have that ebbs and flows as we engage in our lives. As we continue to strive for unachievable perfection, we end up with intrusive, ruminative negative thoughts and in a constant power struggle with our brain and body.

I have received extensive and on-going training related to trauma informed care and practices.
I believe services related to mental health should be as normal and attainable as those related to physical health. Science, with a personal and creative flair, should drive these services. I completed a MSW, with a concentration in mental health, from Washington University in St. Louis. During this time I was able to specialize my education and training experience to best fit the role of a mental health therapist. I am able to work with individuals ranging from five years and up, and can address most mental health needs by utilizing a variety of practice models. The role of trauma and traumatic stress is a special area of practice.

All therapists should know about working with trauma, anxiety, depression etc.
Change is hard. Life not working is harder. A million experiences have brought you to today...the good, the tragic and the unimaginably lovely. Within your experience is potential for success however you define it and no matter your origin, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, gender, race, IQ, body size, education. People want good in their lives but sometimes get lost along the way. It's part of being human. I understand that and have built my practice around compassionately normalizing human struggle and helping people create better lives using their commitment to change along with their values and strengths.

Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is also an approach I use with my clients experiencing trauma, grief and loss.
I utilize an integrative approach to therapy. My primary treatment approach is client centered therapy which allow me to follow my clients lead in session. This approach also assists clients with self-actualization and growth. One of the most important primary needs of individuals is to have secure emotional attachments. Therefore, I utilize a systems approach and attachment processes in my work with couples and families. I have a special interest in working with veterans and active duty military couples and families.

Being taught to see life through a trauma-filled lens, the smallest experience can have the biggest impact.
Here you are reading this profile, maybe questioning how you got to this place in your life needing to seek professional assistance. For a second, can I say how brave you are? Seriously! To step potentially outside of your comfort zone to further your own growth and integrity as a person; to want to recognize your own mis-comings in life and take the responsibility of healing into your own hands. To be honest, if you decide to take this next step there may be times when you want to quit. That furthering your own growth is too much or too challenging. I see that. You have come this far, can I invite you to keep being brave?

What does it mean to feel safety and connection? As individuals we strive to have our social, emotional, and physical needs met. We strive to advocate for equity with ourselves, friends, families, and societal systems. The journey towards safety and connection can be overwhelming, tiresome, and different for each person. Have you ever pondered questions like… where do I start? When was a time I felt safety and connection? Do I feel whole? If you have asked yourself or other’s the above question, you might be ready to start to find those answers for yourself.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
