There is no such thing as an ideal client. That is too boring. The way I do therapy is relaxed. I am not your average therapist, and I am not going to be like, "How does that make you feel?" but I am going to say, "What up! How are we doing today?" I never stop learning, and when you have me as a therapist, you will see that you will fall back in love with learning. Overall, I am just honored you allowed me to help you! Also, the best way to reach me is to Email over calling due to normally being in session, and I want to respond to you as quickly as possible!

Whether you're facing a new health challenge, the loss of someone close to you, or you are tired of old patterns that never seem to get better, therapy can be a step toward health and healing. I view therapy as a two-way street in which I use evidence-based strategies from ACT, CBT, narrative therapy, EMDR, and DBT, to help you reach your goals. Sessions include a balance of creating space for insights and engaging in targeted steps to reduce distress and reach your goals.

I have worked with those who have experienced anxiety, depression, PTSD, autism, and everyday stressors.
“Life is a highway.” A song lyric, but a phrase that can ring so true for many. Life is a highway with twists, turns, hills, and valleys. Cars have extra seats for the ride, so who says you have to go through the journey alone? My goal is to assist you with learning to navigate the twists and turns in life in healthy and safe ways.

I enjoy helping clients improve symptoms related to anxiety, depression, spiritual concerns, trauma (past or present), self-esteem, co-dependency, and adjustment issues.
Hi, I’m Whitney. I have been a professional counselor since 2012. I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of Indiana. I spend much of my time working with individuals and couples. I am a Christian and do specialize in faith-based counseling. I work with clients from a variety of faith backgrounds and or belief-systems, I do not push my beliefs on anyone, about anything. What works for me, may not work for everyone. I believe your life journey is your own, and it’s not my job to tell you what to do on your walk.

We all have trauma, obstacles, setbacks in life, or times where we don't feel our best. It can be a struggle to just get through the day. Sometimes we find that those traumas and obstacles are too big to overcome on our own, and we need help. Therapy can be an excellent place to process through and heal from trauma, gain new coping skills or improve old ones, and develop the self-awareness and insight to reach new levels of personal growth. Whether it's a struggle with a mood disorder like depression/anxiety, major life adjustments like divorce, or processing through a complex trauma history, helping others heal is what I love to do

I have already counseled my ideal client. I worked with a client who came to me in her most significant time of need. She was ready to put in work and wanted to develop. She was diagnosed with Bipolar I and had several suicide attempts. She could externalize her mania and use fitness and wellness to push through her episodes. She is happy and healthy and uses her experiences to help others. My services involve psychotherapy using techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing (MI), with a trauma-informed framework.

I take a trauma informed approach to the therapeutic process, incorporating elements of multiple models of therapy (CBT, attachment theory, narrative therapy, etc.
If you’re experiencing intense emotional symptoms like anxiety, depression, relationship issues, intrusive thoughts/memories, etc. - you deserve freedom! These symptoms & feelings do not have to be your reality anymore. Therapy can be difficult. But it is incredibly rewarding when approached sensitively and intentionally. Freedom is possible.

Specializing in "surviviors of medical gaslighting", abuse, and trauma Tonya has experience providing space for those who find themselves surviving.
Have you experienced neglect, abuse, or traumatic events? Abuse is often hard to understand as victims tend to be authentic, honest, and hopeful. The effects of abuse and trauma bring multiple effects as it creates real changes in the way the brain processes - you are not alone. Has navigating medical answers or conditions created many emotions or even a loss of identity? Has someone you love been struggling with medical conditions? Have medical conditions brought loss to you or your family through the loss of a loved one, divorce, disability, stillborn, or miscarriage?

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
