I believe all individuals have the ability to change and to heal. In my practice, I strive to create a safe, caring, non-judgmental environment where a strong therapeutic relationship can flourish. Through the therapeutic relationship, clients learn to access their inner resources to make long-term, meaningful changes in their lives. I love working collaboratively with my clients, drawing from their personal needs, strengths, and life story to create a treatment approach unique to each individual.

I am a licensed clinician trained in EMDR and I like to work with individuals who seek to explore and understand the deeper aspects of the self. My goal is to work with you to explore the subconscious, patterns of behavior, belief systems, and the underlying reasons for current behaviors and emotions, and work with you on changing problematic symptoms and behaviors. I also work extensively with individuals with histories of trauma.

As a marriage and family specialist, I work with families, couples, and individuals with a variety of presenting needs. My work focuses on extinguishing present problems while also searching for long-term solutions at their root cause. I work with many different needs, specializing in problems with anxiety and depression, identity development, men’s issues, life/work transitions, and forming/maintaining positive healthy relationships. I believe the sure-fire way to peace is through an affirmation of identity and I incorporate this into all the work I do. My priority is your growth and helping you get to where you want to be.

Counseling is a pretty scary idea. Often, the clients that I work with have not experienced a safe relationship in a long time. The idea of sitting in a room and sharing your life story with someone seems like a recipe for betrayal and pain. At some point, though, the need for healing outweighs that risk and you choose to start working towards wellness. It is an uncomfortable, heavy, and ultimately extremely rewarding journey. I'm ready to get started with you.

My goal is to create a safe, collaborative environment for you, where you can talk freely and explore your thoughts, feelings, perceptions, conflicts and relationships. The more we understand together, the less likely you are to feel you are in the grip of distressing patterns and struggles that feel intractable. Your psychotherapy experience can be a source of strength, comfort, confidence and change. It can help you understand yourself better on both a conscious and unconscious level. It is very meaningful to me to have a part in your journey of personal growth and change.

Hello, I can imagine It's hard reaching out for help when you're going through a tough time, this is a great start. Life is challenging enough without us making it worse and causing more suffering. Anxiety, depression, addiction, grief or relationship problems cause us to feel alone, unhappy, and out of answers on how to fix the situation or feel better. You likely feel flooded with hopelessness or paralyzed on how to motivate yourself to change the situation. Relief is possible. Your hardships will be more bearable when you have a trained professional to listen and provide helpful guidance on how to handle your issues.

I work with individuals and couples, teens and adults in both short term solution-focused therapy and longer term psychodynamic therapy. I work with those who struggle with symptoms and dysfunctional relationships and with those who would like to more fully inhabit their own lives. As a licensed professional counselor I provide a safe container and the commitment to listen deeply, knowing that to be human is to struggle. Staying with the struggle, we experience the life that is here: its losses, its disappointments and its joys. It is from here that new vistas open up and movement that is authentic and purposeful becomes possible.

Clients come to therapy in states of deep pain, suffering and confusion. Initially, much of our work together focuses on sitting in that pain, validating the hurts and learning about your unique resilience. Pain and suffering can be great portals to self-awareness. Then from a position of greater self-confidence and self-worth, you can not only ease your suffering but start creating a life that feels full and valid to you.

I specialize in working with millennial professionals who look like they have their shit together, but in reality are overwhelmed by their anxiety and the weight of feeling like a "failure." Together we can help you dial down the anxiety and impact of ADHD. While we're at it, we can ditch the perfectionism and people pleasing, because your wants and needs are valid. We can even help you learn to accept yourself for who you are, instead of judging yourself based on your productivity.

Could your trauma experiences be leaving you with feeling the pressure to be perfect all the time, making sure everyone around you is happy and "good", and you’re physically exhausted from it? Unhealed trauma can result in you second guessing yourself and your decisions, struggling to identify your emotions, finding it hard to rely on others, and feeling like you’re just not good enough. Does this resonate with you? I work with driven, people-pleasing women trauma survivors eager for lasting change who are struggling with the lingering effects of trauma, subsequent relationship anxiety, and painful overwhelm in their body.

Things in your life feel off, emotions overwhelm you daily, your relationships suffer, and nothing feels like it can change for the better. Taking action to get help feels hard but you know something needs to change. Therapy is an evidence-based approach that will get to the root of what's going on and allow for meaningful change. I am a trauma-focused therapist who works best with teenagers, college students, and adults working through anxiety. For those looking for EMDR therapy, I integrate EMDR into the therapeutic process.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Boise?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
