I believe most problems we experience are caused by a combination of two factors; carrying around too much from the past, and not taking good care of ourselves. The symptoms of Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Substance Abuse can all manifest from not cleaning up the past and from practicing poor self care in in the present. Using a variety of approaches including, Psychotherapy, Hypnosis, EMDR, and Process Work, we will together to shift this balance. As people get better at nurturing themselves and begin to let go of the weight of the past, they feel better.

I specialize in complex trauma, relationships, couples, and empowering the LGBTQIA+ community and women.
You may feel tense, on guard, overwhelmed, drained, misunderstood, and disconnected from your body, needs, or relationship. You may have learned to appease the emotions and needs of others first and hide or criticize parts of yourself. If you are seeking relief from depression and anxiety, self-criticism or shame, grief, feeling disconnected or misunderstood, or weighed down by trauma or other experiences, I'm here to tell you that compassion for all parts of you is possible and you are so much more than the parts of you that are hurting.

I specialize in supporting individuals who are working through experiences of trauma, anxiety, depression, and substance use.
I believe that therapy can help us to move toward greater self-understanding, empowerment, and fulfillment. I strive to create a supportive therapeutic space in which you and I can collaboratively process through thoughts, feelings, and experiences with openness and compassion. So often societal messages and stigmas can cause us to view our behaviors with shame and judgment, which can lead us to feel even more stuck. My goal is to support you in slowing down, shifting toward curiosity and compassion, and feeling empowered to make the changes that you seek.

I am trained in a variety of helpful techniques, including EMDR (for trauma), EFT (helps us understand relationships), and ACT and DBT (identifying values and regulating emotion).
Clients reach out to me for many reasons. Sometimes, they've had traumatic experiences or a life transition, and they're trying to figure out how to cope. Maybe they're noticing increased feelings of sadness, fear, worry, or overwhelm, and it's impacting their sleep, daily functioning, or relationships. Perhaps, they're starting to wonder if their use of alcohol or other substances is more helpful or harmful. Other times, parents are concerned about their teens. They notice they've been acting out, are more withdrawn, overwhelmed with school and other stressors, or something just seems off, and they want to support them.

Come, let's sit and chat where you can be heard and seen. "I am sick and tired of being sick and tired." - (Fannie Lou Hamer) ... "I want to feel like I am enough." ... "I don't have any hope." ... "I don't know what to do to feel better." ... These are just a few things I've heard in my career. If this sounds like you, then I'd be happy to walk alongside you in your journey. There are many injustices, microaggressions, and systemic issues that oppress individuals and families, causing anxiety, trauma, and family conflict. Although this can impact your day-to-day life, there is hope and healing available to you.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
