I use EMDR to help process trauma and recalibrate the nervous system.
It takes a village...Navigating through the transitions and challenges in our lives is meant to be a collaboration with family, friends, elders, wise women and men. However, in the times of instant change and mobility, some may find themselves lost and alone, far from those they confide in and look up to. Sometimes they isolate for fear of vulnerability and the pressure to appear "to have it together". When this self-judgement and drive to be “perfect” eventally takes its toll, one can be left feeling bereft of deep connection to self and others. Finding a therapist you can trust and confide in, can help you find your way.

The relationship to ourself is the foundation of all our relationships. Let's begin with you. Do you act in ways that don't get you the result you want? ? Do you wish you just knew how to be a good partner? I can help you to love better. Together we inquire into what holds you back from fully opening your heart. Maybe there is possible unresolved trauma holding you back? Let's create a relationship template that supports what you both truly want. It's best to come as a couple. If that is not possible, come by yourself.

You may be an artist. You may be an academic. You may be an activist. I have been all three of these, and I speak their languages: of creativity, intellectual enlivenment, and social justice. And right now, in this time of upheaval and unrest, you may be hurting--feeling lost, adrift, burned out, under- or over-stimulated, or simply sad. I am here to connect with you. To listen compassionately. To make space for you to better hear yourself, and to encourage linkages, mentalizations, and trauma metabolizations that will allow you to better listen to the rhythms of your body and use your own mind. I offer you my mind in this pursuit.

Many people suffer stress from past events, from childhood or later. My neurofeedback, biofeedback, and hypnosis can help reduce or eliminate that stress. I have t wo doctorates in clinical psychology (2012 and 2020) in addition to my certification in neurofeedback and hypnotherapy. I teach psychology at the Masters level at Antioch University in Santa Barbara so I'm really good at explaining what I do. I now have a Certificate in Sport Psychology! I pride myself in delivering these services in the most empathic manner possible. If you are short with your loved ones, generally uptight, and regretting it later I can help.

The most difficult things in life are often the doorway to a great shift. This doorway is not always easy to find. Especially if we go it alone, or have felt stuck for a while. It often takes a fresh pair of eyes, a "second mind" to help see more clearly, find better ways and new ground to step on to. Great moves are possible when done in kindness, with intelligence and heart.

Most of my practice focuses on individuals experiencing depression and anxiety stemming from unprocessed childhood trauma.
The adults, couples and groups I work with share similar goals. They aim to gain insight into themselves, to identify the obstacles that hold them back from living the lives they want to live and to develop healthy coping mechanisms to handle their issues. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, relationship problems or life transitions, I provide a safe, non-judgmental and supportive environment to help you process your problems. I am passionate about helping my clients learn how to make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives.

I help people understand the triggers that lead to anxiety, depression and PTSD.
I enjoy working with people who are open to looking at themselves in new and different ways. I help clients explore how their issues develop and how to make healthy choices toward change. I believe we are all influenced by our most important relationships and in therapy I help clients figure out how past relational patterns are being repeated right now. When we can understand that, we can create new relationship possibilities that work better. I enjoy working with graduate students and professionals in the community. I love helping clients who are involved in the arts (musicians, actors, painters, dancers).

Do you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or defeated? Has worry taken over your life? Or maybe past trauma is resurfacing and is now also impacting your relationships while leaving you confused and frightened. While we often rationally believe in our strengths and potential for growth, our gut tends to reliably remind us that we are to blame, not good enough, unsafe, or powerless - because it feels so true. My deepest hope for our work together is for you to not only know that you are worthy of love and a fulfilled life but that you can also feel it in your body and live accordingly.

Affordable and accessible therapy is a necessity. I have two main concentrations to my practice: 1) I work with those interested in a confidential therapeutic setting to resolve complex psychological states and feelings (such as anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, trauma, childhood, relationship difficulties, personal grief, fear, shame, worthlessness, and existential questions about meaning-in-life). 2) I work in a consultant capacity for individuals with prescribed short-term, career-minded professional goals (public speaking, presentations, social skills, deadlines, writer's block, and management strategies).

I specialize in child behavior difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, trauma, depression, and anxiety.
Welcome to my practice! I feel privileged to be in a position to guide people through various problems, in search of solutions and geared toward healthy living. I have learned that the most important component to creating a healthy therapeutic process is the meaningful relationships that we create along the way. I currently utilize a strength-based approach in my work with children, adolescence, and families-the focus of the work is identifying and building from the strengths of the individual. I value the collaborative effort that goes into developing a treatment plan; collaboration allows us to experience movement toward pathways of transformation.

I am all about developing peace and joy in life, but that can seem beyond reach when you're going through difficult times. Current stressors could affect your sense of wellbeing. If you are dealing with depression, anxiety, addiction, or some other discomfort, there might be underlying issues and remote memories, triggering you. Your relationship or career could be affected and you might be ready to do something about it. If you need to move on from problematic childhood events or heal unprocessed trauma, psychotherapy can offer relief and a (much) better life quality.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
