My ideal client is a person with a growth mindset who wants to work on their internal narrative. I want to be a witness and facilitate transformation. I am trained in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Attachment-focused- EMDR. Eye Movement, Desensitization, Reprocessing. Attachment-focused- EMDR is an effective relational modality to reprocess old negative memories/trauma and come to embody a positive more functional internal narrative. I work with people on addiction issues like alcohol, drugs, food, and self-destructive behavior that is getting in the way of a more stable existence.

I use a trauma-focused existential approach with clients and have worked in many settings across all levels of care (inpatient, outpatient, group homes, and residential treatment).
“Being able to feel safe with other people is probably the single most important aspect of mental health; safe connections are fundamental to meaningful and satisfying lives.” ― Bessel A. van der Kolk. My approach to treatment helps people identify the core issues that have been avoided and pushed aside in an emotionally safe environment. Through the process of consciousness raising and self exploration, lasting changes in thought patterns are made, and overall life improvement occurs. I work with people of all ages and have a wealth of experience working with teens and young adults.

EMDR is extremely effective in the treatment of trauma.
I am an experienced therapist who has been working with teens, individuals, couples and families for over 30 years. I see therapy as a partnership: you enter this process with your particular issues and uniqueness and together, through building trust, being curious and using specialized techniques, you progress. My approach is based on my client's personal history and their needs and, in general, I am quite interactive. I provide short-term as well as long-term treatment.

Most of my clinical experience focused on treating: complex trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, anxiety, and depression.
I strive to facilitate a reflective and explorative environment where the unbearable can be held and truth can be spoken. Multicultural and bilingual elements of my identity, and a history of enduring ethnic discrimination and immigration, significantly inform how I listen to my clients, think through trauma and fragmentation with them. Unconscious repetitions of aversion, clinging, and reenactments of familiar/familial ways of being bind us in suffering. Through psychotherapy, rigid frames of being can be deconstructed and psychological space can be reclaimed for creativity, desire and becoming.

I use brainspotting, a technique developed out of EMDR, to help clients process trauma, difficult issues/symptoms and to get unstuck.
Struggling with relationships? Experiencing the many ways substance use can create pain, whether for you or someone you love? Are you living with a mental health condition that requires support? Identifying limiting beliefs and unhelpful behaviors is an essential step to living an emotionally stable life, whatever difficult crossroads you may be experiencing. Often, emotional recovery begins with healing long-buried childhood trauma. My goal in therapy with you is to be your guide on this healing journey. You don't have to do it alone. And I believe relief can sometimes happen as early as the first session. Licensed in CA and FL.

Our therapy will be informed by my understanding of human development and the long-term impact of early experience, including early family relations, emotionally-troubled parents, trauma, and the spectrum of life experiences that leave lasting scars.
I have extensive experience working with adults and children as young as 3. I specialize in helping children other therapists describe as "difficult to treat," including children who are traumatized, emotionally unregulated, physically aggressive, or have difficulty connecting with adults and caregivers. I will work with your child whose needs have not been met in schools or by other therapists. I help children through play, physical movement, games, art, and words. I help overwhelmed parents with sound psychological guidance. I have fourteen years' experience and I teach and train other therapists.

I've had a varied experience since I was a sophomore in college, from group homes, residential facilities, job coaching, comorbid disorders, homelessness, domestic violence, trauma, abuse, family dynamics and working in the public sector.
#1 You are courageous. It is not easy to ask for help or be willing to look at coping strategies or attachment styles that are no longer serving you. I strive to provide an open unbiased environment to develop a comfortable therapist/client dynamic in order to begin processing past or current issues with a focus on goal setting and starting where you're at. Change happens when you believe it can happen and the only failure is in not trying. I strongly believe that there is no destination, only the journey and in focusing on the process and being mindful, you can achieve anything.

I have extensive experience in helping clients with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and issues of identity.
The decision to start therapy can be intensely personal when the sum of your experiences messages to you that nothing can, or will change. Therapy isn't just a space where we develop insight into how we got to where we are, but a space that we take to consider who we want to move forward into becoming. You make sense in context, and it's in that context that we'll work together to support you in overcoming barriers to becoming the version of yourself you strive to be.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
