TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma.
During life’s most challenging chapters, we all need support, encouragement, and help to navigate the hardest times. Past and current struggles may be a part of your story, but they certainly don't have to define your future. Healing and change are both possible. If you're ready, I'd be honored to be on your journey to help support and empower you. Over the years, I've learned that many issues leading to counseling begin from unresolved trauma. I am nationally certified in TF-CBT (trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy) and nationally certified in Brainspotting.

I’m glad you are looking for someone to talk to! Maybe you are experiencing major life changes, struggling with depression or anxiety, dealing with trauma or relationship wounds, or just feeling stuck or in “auto-pilot” mode. Whatever is bringing you to therapy, I want to reassure you that I am ready to sit with you, listen with my whole heart, and help you work towards the goals you have (and you decide those). Together we will work to forge a path of more peace, connection, and fulfillment with yourself and in your life. I believe we all need a space to process life and I am honored to get to be a part of that healing process.

We are dedicated to providing invaluable mental health services to children and adults who are dealing with issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and more.
Life can be hard, difficult, overwhelming, frustrating, and sometimes unbearable. You face so many challenges and disappointments – some which can’t even be shared with close friends and family. You go on like nothing is wrong, but it doesn’t stop the thoughts or emotions from hitting you at the most random times. Wishing and hoping it will go away hasn’t really worked either. If you read that and thought, "this is me", Heart Matters Therapy can help.

While I am trained as a generalist, my areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, trauma, suicidal ideation, self-esteem, body image, identity development, life transitions, family dynamics, couples therapy, and relationship/communication difficulties.
My approach to therapy begins with a belief that we are all wired for connection. Connection happens when we are heard and understood in relationship to others. I engage our work through compassion, curiosity, humor, perspective, and honesty. I believe that creating a space to slow down and tune into our emotions, beliefs, and responses is a primary way to heal, grow, and authentically relate to others. My passion in counseling is to create a relationship built on safety, trust, and hope, where people feel accepted and challenged to grow in new and meaningful ways. .

My typical clients come in struggling with anxiety, relationships issues, self-esteem, or healing after complex trauma.
“Owning our story & loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we will ever do.” This quote by Brene Brown sums up my deepest belief about the therapy process. I love to provide a safe & authentic environment in which I can walk alongside you as you learn to do both– own your story & through it, love yourself. My approach is warm, direct, & involves some humor (because laughing usually helps!)

I would see mid teens to late twenties. The primary issue would be trauma. Some goals to have would be behavior change and challenging unhelpful thoughts. The idea behind this would be to decrease the impact that the trauma is inflicting by increasing the individuals sense of control over their life.

Helping another person find hope when they'd had none, replace self-doubt with confidence and despair with fulfillment, to cope and function better in life: these kinds of things are what drive my existence. With over 15 years of experience in the mental health field, I would love to help you in any or all of these areas. I treat the most common problems such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and psychosis, but I am particularly passionate about helping people who are leery about seeking therapy out of fear or judgment of embarrassment. I am also drive to help those with trauma and abuse-related problems.

Whether you are working through childhood trauma, a difficult relationship, a stressful life event, or a challenging season of parenting, I’d be honored to walk with you through the healing process.
I work to empower children, teenagers, and adults to create peaceful and productive lives following a stressful phase of life or a traumatic event. Since 2004, I have worked in residential treatment, private clinics, and in community and school-based programs. I have worked with a team to establish an Early Childhood Court program, given TV interviews about mental health issues, spoken about parenting and attachment to a class of teenage mothers, provided group therapy to increase emotional regulation for children who have been unsuccessful in the classroom environment, and co-facilitated a 3-day trauma work shop in a church setting

My role is to simply hold space for you. Create a safe environment and assist you in making sense of your story. The goal is to find balance between "what to hold on to" and "what to let go of". The evidenced based treatment approaches I use, assist with identifying and exploring underlying factors that continue to cause unwarranted anxiety, trauma, and depression. I am a certified Trust Based Relational Practitioner (TBRI), an attachment-based trauma informed interventionist, the focus is on meeting the complex needs of the vulnerable. It would be an honor to work with you.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
