My goal as a therapist is to help people become more the master of their lives so they are living as fully, effectively, and joyfully as they want. I help clients resolve past traumas & issues and gain new skills in self-confidence, relationships, and accomplishing life's goals. During my 30+ years as a therapist, I have taught psychotherapy at graduate schools (8 years) in Indonesia and The Philippines as well as maintaining a full-time private practice specializing in depression, grief, relationships, parenting, divorce, phobias, anxiety, anger management, PTSD with military personnel and survivors of trauma / abuse; and cross-cultural & inter-faith issues.

By combining traditional psychotherapy with various "body-based" techniques I specialized in "somatic psychotherapy," an effective holistic practice helping client needs ranging from trauma to common challenges of depression, anxiety, grief, and relationship issues.
Let's face it, life events shape our present, and contribute to a loss of connection to ourselves, family, others, and the world. A recovered sense-of-self is essential for empowerment to face these issues. And, because this disconnect initially occurs in earliest childhood, traditional "talk" therapy alone is an insufficient approach. I am a therapist shaped by a myriad of life roles and events. I intentionally sought a PhD in clinical psychology with a specialization in "somatic psychology" to underscore my own therapeutic experience. Somatic psychology studies how the "body" informs and provides clues to our emotional responses linked to childhood.

I have personal experience from the military (12 years as a US Marine) and have worked with people experiencing PTSD, depression and anxiety from multiple traumatic sources and not just military related.
Marital or relationship problems, traumatic past, depression, anxiety, frustration, anger, unable to focus or concentrate, alcohol or substance abuse, or just struggling to take the next step in life. These are just a fraction of the issues and problems I help people with every day. People want peace in their lives, but the reality is peace has a price. Our lives are entangled in responsibilities and relationships that are extremely difficult and take a heavy toll upon us mentally. In many cases we are to believe that if you can't see the hurt or the pain then it doesn't exist. It does and it is real. There is help and it is here.

I'm a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT), Certified Trauma Therapist, and Trauma Conscious Yoga Therapist.
Bio video on my website...When you pay for therapy, you're expecting something of tangible value. All too often what you get instead is a nice person on a couch and little else. That’s not me. With high energy and humor, I help people recover from sexual addiction; I help couples lost in conflict and hopelessness; and I help parents with teens and young adults. I work with sexual abuse, attachment wounds, and traumas/PTSD of all kinds. I am a Christian, and I approach therapy from a clinical perspective. We can integrate your faith as much as you feel comfortable, or not at all.

My intuitive approach draws from a range of effective therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), solutions/mindfulness-focused therapy, and trauma-informed CBT.
We all struggle with something. Taking the first step toward living a more meaningful, fulfilling life is a big jump for some. I know what it feels like to sit in the client's chair and how scary it can be to get started in therapy. When I was younger, I found myself burdened by debilitating anxiety, depression, and a lot of unhelpful coping mechanisms which resulted in feeling stuck, loneliness, and relational problems with family, friends, and romantic partners alike. Does this sound familiar? If so, you may be the perfect client for me. I can't wait to meet you. Call or email to request an appointment today!

What if you found yourself living in the moment again? The path of becoming the best version of you can be possible through the path of healing in traditional and trauma focused treatment.
Life has challenging moments and obstacles and having someone to work with you on your journey can help make the impossible become possible. Are you looking to heal and build a better path? Do past events or daily stressors overwhelm you? Do you feel like you've attempted to make change or work through your emotional pain but nothing seems to be working? Often it can be frustrating when you've feel that you have exhausted your options to building a better path.

Watch my bio video on my website. My goal in counseling is to use the experience I have accrued over the years, my directness, and my humor to help clients find their true self and exist in relationships the way they were created to. I believe that the root of all addiction is trauma. Instead of my clients asking, “What’s wrong with me?” I want them to ask themselves, “What happened to me?” From this vantage point, we can begin to walk the road of healing and break the bonds of shame. With significant experience in addiction/trauma treatment, I am able to provide my clients a deep understanding of their pain.

Have you wondered, "Am I the only one struggling?" or, "Why can't I just be happy?" Maybe you've experienced loss, rejection, or betrayal. Maybe physical illness or emotional pain like loneliness, sadness, fear, and worry drag you down. Maybe devastating trauma or abuse refuses to stay in the past. Whether you've experienced more tragedy and hardship than most, or just think, "Most folks seem to be living their lives better than me," therapy has been proven to help.

I'm trained in trauma processing, with extensive experience in helping clients recover from PTSD.
Do you struggle to be truly authentic or know yourself? There is freedom in taking off the masks you feel you need to wear to protect yourself, or who you believe others need you to be. Therapy involves change, a healing that brings your real self to life, but change isn't always easy. Therapy is an investment, and you aren’t investing your time and money to talk with a “friend.” If you're looking for that kind of therapist, that's not me. I have a direct and active approach to therapy. While being genuine and empathetic, I will confront and challenge the beliefs that keep you from living as your authentic self.

I offer Christian psychotherapy, psychological testing, sliding fees for 2nd visit on for clients without insurance ($40 min), and specific expertise in relationship/marital issues, conflict resolution, and in PTSD, DID & dissociative disorders and other recovery from abuse - sexual, physical, religious/cultic and emotional.
I have expertise in integration of religion in counseling, both positively and negatively. So I actively integrate clients' Christian faith for those who seek it - in both techniques and goals (cf. spiritual maturity = balance of openness and commitment to God, self and others), while recognizing unbalanced religion is often part of clients' abusive past. So I work with my clients' values and refer out the few who can't work with mine.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
