I specialize in working with mood disorders, addiction, and trauma.
A wise artist once said, "The truth is, I need help, but I just can't imagine who I'd be if I was happy." It's common to feel more comfortable in a state of depression, anxiety, or stress when these have been your only companions. What would it be like if you were happy? I am not here to promise a constant state of happiness, but I will promise that I will accompany and support you in your journey toward healing and peace.

I collaborate with clients to address a range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and general life stressors.
I believe that successful therapy work begins with a good relationship between therapist and client, and therefore seek to ensure a common ground to build upon. Early in my career I discovered that often presenting issues have roots from our childhood experiences and relationships. I have dedicated much of my training since to becoming proficient in working with trauma and dissociative symptoms. The good news is that we can process these experiences, and grow to create a greater quality of life!

Depression, anxiety, low self-worth, and poor interpersonal relationships, are often symptoms of childhood trauma.
You don't really like to talk about your childhood or maybe you don't even remember a lot of it. You know parts were bad, the fights, addictions, mental illness, sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, maybe even the death of a loved one. You try to put it behind you but you struggle in your marriage and yell at the kids. Holidays are hard, and sometimes you wonder if it's even worth living. You overcompensate or try to be invisible, because that's how you learned to survive. You suffer from a sense of not being worthy or enough, but it doesn't have to be like that. Life can be good. You ARE worthy and you ARE enough.

Trauma informed therapy takes into account the effecting experiences of the early development through to the current circumstances that have contributed to the present daily challenges.
When we experience traumatic, intense or habitual stressors, we tend to wear down over time. Realizing something needs to change, we reach out for help. It has become my life's passion to provide help and relief in the lives of those individuals ready for change. I collaborate with my client to find his or her own answers. I believe, that we already know what the answers are to our unique challenges. Sometimes we simply need someone to help guide us through the process of discovering those answers.

I provide a trauma-informed approach in working with clients, focusing on the specific needs of the individual client.
Being vulnerable and reaching out for help when you need it can be a challenge. Brené Brown states, “Vulnerability is not winning or losing. It’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage.” I am here to support adults facing mood, behavior, and thinking challenges, assisting them in navigating difficult times or circumstances they may be facing.

Anxiety, depression, and trauma are not just “in your head” they are also in your heart and in your body.
You're there, in the dark, struggling to find a way out. You're trying to just get through today. At times, even breathing seems to be too much. Life is so exhausting. Some days it takes everything you can muster just to get through the next minute. The people around you, your friends, your family, if they are still there, don’t get you. If you hear “just get over it” or “think about happy things” one more time you’ll scream. Why don’t they get it? This isn’t something you “just get over”! Like you would pick this life if you had a choice? There’s only the darkness, full of loneliness, worry, hopelessness, and despair.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
