By decreasing avoidance and challenging negative thoughts, recovery from trauma is possible.
You keep replaying the incident in your mind even when you don’t want to. The event has left you feeling on edge and afraid. You can’t relax and it’s impossible to be in public without looking over your shoulder. You can’t stay anywhere too long, or you fear you will come apart. People around you don’t understand and tell you to get over it. You wish you could simply get over it, but this event has taken over your life. You don’t recognize yourself, and you don’t think you can ever be the person you were before. You can’t sleep or focus. You believe the incident was your fault and think of things you should have done differently.

I have extensive work with trauma, high expectations and success, as well as anxieties and fears holding clients back.
What if I told you that there is something that can help you get past your stuck point in life? The thing that is holding you back from your upmost potential. The hurdles you’ve experienced or the symptoms that you are feeling that are making life not as enjoyable as you know that it could be. Counseling can do that. Everyone can benefit at some point in their life from counseling. No matter the size of the obstacle that you have to overcome or the feelings in your way to live a meaningful and fulfilled life full of joy, counseling can help you achieve that daily experience.

When people have experienced trauma, losses, stressors, and difficulties in relationships, they sometimes struggle to find hope. When relationships with friends, children & family are confusing and challenging, many feel isolated. You may judge yourself harshly instead of practicing self-compassion, leading to feelings of low self-esteem. In addition to meeting the needs of people struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and family conflict, members of the adoption triad will find a safe space here to explore their story and prepare to meet the unique needs that encompass adoption.

I believe all people deserve to experience unconditional positive regard; the acceptance of who you are regardless of what you say or do. You are unique, and I like to embrace that uniqueness and show you how to use it as your own personal superpower. Although we cannot avoid loss, pain, disappointment, and trauma, I find that when people connect with others they are inherently strengthened. There is power in telling your story in safe spaces.

My experience includes working with people struggling with grief, personality disorders, trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression and relationship issues.
My greatest desire is that each of my clients learn through the process of therapy how to walk in freedom. Freedom from depression, anxiety and present and past issues. I believe that we are a product of our past but that healing begins when we explore that past and begin to write a new story, a healing narrative. It is my belief that a productive therapeuitc relationship begins by providing a safe place, free of judgement and full of grace for the process and ourselves.

I work with clients who feel disconnected from others, themselves or life. I specialize in helping people with anxiety, including anxiety caused by trauma, whether it happened recently, in your far past, or both. Psychotherapy starts with the personal connection, so the first step is finding the therapist that is right for you. Once that is achieved, therapy can become a collaborative effort of determining goals, obstacles to reaching those goals, and the best paths forward. Ultimately, finding a therapist that you connect with is the biggest predictor of growth in therapy.

I am trained in EMDR for the treatment of PTSD, trauma and abuse.
Life happens. And there’s no shame in asking for help in times of trouble. My goal as a counselor is to provide a space and to create a relationship that you can use for your own development, as well as provide you with tools and strategies to better cope with and maybe even resolve issues when the hard times come. Together we'll work to identify what may be holding you back or keeping you down. You will gain a better understanding of why you feel the way you do and you'll be empowered with the knowledge that change is possible.

I am trained in and have experience working with clients struggling with addiction, anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma.
One of the first things I tell clients who struggle with mental health disorders or overwhelming stress is that in today's society, with all the turmoil and uncertainty we face, it is a natural and normal reaction to be struggling mentally. While there is still a large stigma towards mental health and therapy I believe a great way to combat this is by understanding that it is not weakness to seek help, it in fact takes great strength to reach out to someone and admit that we cannot do this on our own.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
