I am a Certified EMDR practitioner and Approved Consultant and I have found EMDR effective for development trauma, post-traumatic stress and other conditions such as anxiety, phobias, and stress and panic attacks.
I am interested in treating people whose potential is hindered by negative concepts of themselves imprinted in childhood (through traumatic experiences or neglect of basic emotional needs) and who frequently suffer from symptoms like chronic depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. I am committed to helping these individuals attain a sense of self that brings them happiness and fulfillment. My basic perspective is that the human mind possesses the capacity to heal itself, if guided in the right way. I have explored various methods and approaches to helping the mind restore its basic wholeness.

As a Senior Faculty of Trauma Resource Institute, I begin with teaching somatic skills.
Using a resiliency-focused approach, it doesn’t have to be an ordeal to heal. In fact, neuroscience has shown this is not the best way to work on oneself. Rather, focusing on regulating the nervous system using simple wellness skills and education about the brain and body connection can pave the way toward increased daily well-being as well as lay groundwork for resolving trauma. We can't always prevent stressors, and many of us have been through challenges or traumas in childhood that make it difficult to weather life's changes. Together, we will co-create the best course of treatment to help you live more fully in each moment.

As a cancer patient and a caregiver, I know some of the inside pieces that come with living through trauma that others simply can’t.
You present a face to the world that tells everyone you’re handling your stressors with ease. You're usually the go-to person in your closest relationships, but now you're wondering why no one checks in on you, and you realize that you've never given them a reason to. You appear fine on the outside, but when you get in touch with how you feel deep down, you notice sadness, numbness, or disconnection. You don’t have to stay disconnected from your relationships or feelings. Nor do you need to get consumed by them. They don't have to continue to overwhelm you. And you don't need to go through them alone.

The Avery Centre has experienced and compassionate therapists ready to help children and adults suffering from trauma, grief, loss, and/or PTSD. After a crisis, loss, or trauma, each individual has their own way of grieving, and coping. Sadness, guilt, shock, anger, frustration, rage, and feelings of helplessness may occur. The healing process may begin with the passage of time and the support of loved ones; however, professional help may be needed for support during the initial shock of the situation and later on while experiencing different stages of the grief cycle. The Avery Centre was created to provide clients with support, guidance, understanding, and empathy during these most difficult times.

One of my goals for you in therapy is to help you seek the truth about painful and often hidden emotional trauma that occurred in the past.
Do you lack self esteem and feel anxious and depressed? Are you experiencing anger but having difficulty expressing it? Do you often feel overly sensitive and self conscious to the judgment of others? You no longer have to be bothered by shame and guilt . I will create a safe space, with no judgment, for you to share and understand the root cause of these feelings. I am willing to explore any area that you reveal. My goal is to assist you in alleviating depression in an effort to release you from its painful hold, rendering it powerless to control you. If you need to make changes in your life, I will be there to help you.

Depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship strife, and other life circumstances can get in the way of creativity, decision-making, work, and love.
Therapy works, and people can change. Living in a world that is highly relational, we often find that our toughest psychological problems are rooted in systemic relationship issues. I work with individuals and couples who are interested in developing healthier connections with themselves and with others. In order to make healthy relationships with others possible, one must foster a healthy relationship with oneself. In developing psychological health in ourselves, we become better able to interact with others in a way that does not cause us deep pain and ongoing frustration.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
