I have advanced training in treating trauma and PTSD, including the use of EMDR.
As a Clinical Psychologist in practice for over 25 years, I specialize working with adults working through the barriers that keep them stuck in unproductive patterns that limit their life potential. Hardships, losses, and traumas often create beliefs that are self-limiting. These beliefs often stand in the way of the life you want to live. Counseling can be a powerful pathway toward discovering and developing your unique and whole self. Counseling starts with facing the pain that prompts you to seek help. Facing the starting point of anger, anxiety, depression, loss, or relationship pain leads to the work of therapy.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma/PTSD, anger management and family and relationship issues.
Are you doing okay today? Whether you are or are not, I believe that therapy must be a "you-centered" experience where control over your quality of life is regained, maintained, and enhanced. I regularly tell my clients that I am a human first and a therapist second, which serves as a reminder that my priority is building a human connection with you. Empathy is the most important tool I bring. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who believes in creating a compassionate, nurturing, and empathetic space where clients feel comfortable sharing their deepest thoughts, feelings, and life experiences.

As a functional therapist, I am passionate about journeying with clients as they return to their authentic Self. The work I focus on in the counseling room is root-cause or “trauma-informed”, meaning together we will discover the moment(s) of harm that are still carried in your mind and body today. When overwhelm, stress, and trauma are unattended to, they can manifest as depression, anxiety, low-self esteem, and emotional dysregulation – even physical pain and disease. Sometimes it’s possible to pin-point the exact moment, while others are struggling to understand what has gotten them to “this place” – and that is okay!

I love sitting with people who want to get unstuck and live authentically. Our stories impact our bodies not just our hearts and minds. Overwhelming moments or periods of prolonged stress can manifest in the present if not followed by adequate periods of recovery. You'll know you are stuck if your behaviors or responses are sabotaging current relationships and life goals. You may know the origin of your trauma responses, though I often find clients can't pinpoint a specific incident to explain why they are getting easily triggered or paralyzed. That's ok!

In addition to working with a variety of challenges, I practice trauma-informed care.
Do feelings of anxiety or depression leave you feeling "stuck" in life? Do you find yourself awake at night because you just can't quiet your mind, and expecting the worst when walking into unfamiliar situations, or starting new relationships? When things happen to us that are not within our control, feelings of anxiety are common. Life altering experiences are not always obvious... in fact, they can appear quite subtle, yet have a large impact on the way we view the world, and view ourselves.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
