I specialize in the embodied impacts of trauma, gender identity, queer experience, sexual concerns, and alternative relationship structures.
First things first: You are the expert on your experience! My role as your therapist is to support you in unearthing and building on the strengths you possess, the insights you hold, and the world you envision for yourself. As a therapist, I am inspired by authentic connection and collaborative work. Whether it's your goal to manage anxiety and stress, build a healthier relationship with your body and self, engage in healing around traumatic experiences, or develop more rewarding relationships, I provide a non-judgmental space in which we'll work together to explore those things that feel hardest to manage alone.

I am a certified EMDR clinician and specialize in the treatment of trauma, PTSD, C-PTSD and subsequent relationship issues.
Having the tools we need to navigate our way through life's challenges is often the key to greater happiness and fulfillment. I believe that human beings start from a place of health and resilience. When we have difficult or traumatic experiences, we can often be sidetracked by self-doubt, anxiety, depression and more. This can make life and relationships feel overwhelming, confusing and at times unmanageable. Therapy provides a safe space to explore and understand ourselves better while also developing the tools we need to move forward. Through this process, we can begin to heal from the past while creating a more intentional future.

I use a variety of methods in my work, including relational, cognitive, behavioral, and emotion-focused interventions in an integrative fashion to address each person's unique concerns. With children, I incorporate developmentally-sensitive interventions and mediums for self-expression.

I have received specialized training treating children and adolescents with anxiety or histories of trauma or loss.
Being a human being isn't easy. Unfortunately, it seems we are destined at times in our lives to experience pain, fear, confusion, and difficulty. The good news is that it is often through befriending and understanding that which is most painful, frightening, or challenging that we grow and find more enduring freedom and peace. As a therapist, I see my role as offering the nurturing environment within which individuals can better understand themselves and their lives, overcome their challenges, and discover their true potential.

I provide support, insight and respect for my client's individual needs, strengths, struggles and experience. Therapy is a collaborative process. I believe that the client is an expert on their own lives whose openness and honesty is essential in healing and growing. That's why it is so important to build a strong, trusting relationship . My approach is laid back, but I will confront and challenge when necessary. I am very passionate about helping people heal, find acceptance while changing the things they can. I only ask that you be open to the process and help me help you.

I have an extensive background in the treatment of complex trauma/PTSD, disorganized attachment, and the management of traumatic-stress response.
Accepting new clients for video sessions during COVID-19 shut-down. While the coronavirus outbreak impacts each of us, individuals who have experienced prior traumatic events, and those predisposed to depression, anxiety, and traumatic stress response, are uniquely vulnerable. Managing these conditions in the context of a complex global health crisis presents a unique challenge. With over 18 years of professional practice, and a specific background, focused on the intersection of mental health, infectious diseases, and complex medical concerns, I feel that I am uniquely capable of helping clients/patients confront that challenge.

If you ventured onto this site, I imagine you may be dealing with a stressor that is overwhelming. You took the first important step towards getting help, and that is great. I am a licensed clinical therapist with 17 years of experience working with individuals that are dealing with a variety of circumstances, including mental health issues, life transitions, and difficulty managing stress. The most important thing to me is understanding your particular situation, how you are experiencing life, and working together to teach you tools and techniques you can use to instill hope, peace of mind, and life satisfaction.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
