Childhood trauma, physical and emotional abuse, and PTSD contribute to the dysregulation of the brain's response to stress.
If addiction has taken over your life, now is the time to do something about it. Life is too short to be unhappy. I offer a warm, confidential environment to help you find the clarity you need to break the cycle of addiction so you and those around you may lead happier lives. I also offer help for co-occurring issues: mood regulation, anxiety, anger management, trauma, and high functioning autism. I am trained in EMDR, Mindfulness Practices and Stress Reduction. In addition, I frequently work in consultation with other therapists' clients, providing EMDR and substance abuse assessments and treatment.

I have experience working with individuals suffering from anxiety, depression, addiction, and trauma.
Who would you be without the burdens you carry? Whether you are struggling through a crisis, experiencing a loss, or dealing with anxiety, depression, or addiction, you don't have to fight through it alone. Life events often create mental and emotional blocks that keep you feeling stuck. Together we will identify issues, dysfunctional patterns of behavior, maladaptive coping mechanisms, and other barriers that are preventing you from being where you want to be. We will start with where you are right now and build on your strengths so you can begin or resume living the life you want.

We tend to think about trauma as huge, life threatening events but it can also be abuse, divorce, moving, bullying, physical illness, death of a loved one, surgery, harassment, living through a pandemic, political upheaval, etc… Thinking of trauma in this way means trauma is part of life – it is so common, in fact, that we may not even recognize it.
In addition to being a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and Certified Yoga Instructor. I am passionate about employing mindfulness and bodyfulness techniques to help you regain the equilibrium that trauma steals and restore your sense of control in this chaotic world. Along the way, you’ll learn to read your body’s messages instead of fearing them and pushing them away.

Inevitably we all encounter profound disappointments and trauma in our life-time. The resulting pain which lingers, may cause physical or emotional symptoms such as confusion, excessive anger, fear, anxiety, and/or depression. Such symptoms make achieving one's life's goals difficult. The goal of psychotherapy is to relieve these debilitating symptoms. Working with adult individuals, I create an environment that facilitates an honest and open exchange between patient and therapist. My goal is to identify the source of symptoms and to increase my patient's quality of life by restoring a sense of balance of body and mind.

I have advanced training in PTSD, grief, disaster mental health, addiction, family counseling/mediation.
People seek therapy for many reasons. Perhaps you are in a crisis, confronting a life transition (divorce, retirement, death, illness, empty nest, new relationship), having difficulty coping with work stress, using/abusing substances, or "feeling stuck" and unable to make positive life changes. I believe that most of us have blind spots - emotional patterns or behaviors that can get in the way of our healing or fully exploring life’s challenges and opportunities. My role is to provide clinical insight and guidance that is collaborative and respectful, supporting your unique journey toward recovery and growth.

At The Sexuality, Attachment, and Trauma Project, we provide identity-affirming care for all communities. Our patients are people, not problems, and we work with each person differently. We treat a range of issues related to sexuality and gender. These include out-of-control sexual behavior, sometimes labeled sex addiction (although we’re not fans of labels). Patients also come to us for intimacy anxiety, sexual compulsivity, gender and orientation confusion, LGBTQ+ issues, and family trauma.

People often come to me because they recognize something is not working and they are willing to admit that it is no longer fruitful to simply try to figure it out on their own. They are open to self-reflection, new ideas for coping, self-care, and communication with others. People present with all kinds of issues: depression and anxiety, relational struggles, difficulty connecting to what they want and following through on goals, unresolved trauma from the past or present, the use of coping mechanisms that had been helpful, but no longer are, and challenges posed by various life-stage transitions. We all need support in hard times.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I've helped many clients find peace and confidence after difficult experiences.
Do you feel like jittery, like your nerves are on fire? Are you constantly on edge, waiting for the other shoe to drop? These could be signs that you are struggling with the aftermath of stress or trauma. You feel exhausted and debilitated by these sensations. But there's hope.

This experience has allowed me to cultivate a comfort and confidence in treating numerous client concerns; be it emotional, interpersonal, psychiatric, addictions (early and advanced recovery enhancement needs), trauma recovery, adjustment, sexual identity, eating disorders, compulsive gambling, mood disorders, self-esteem, anger management, spiritual concerns and creativity enhancement.
Recovery is not a solitary journey; it is about connection with self and others. As we enter into the process of therapy you will have the opportunity to experience inner connection and awareness leading to Self expansion and outer growth. I believe strongly that our primary task is to continue your journey of self exploration; to seek the wealth of potential, strength, compassion, understanding, and openness that lies within. I believe in the resilience of the human spirit to heal emotional wounds resulting from trauma.
Do you ever have the feeling that if you could talk to someone you would feel less anxious, worried or depressed about a situation or issue? Do you ever feel that perhaps, if someone would listen to your concerns and "get it", you might be able to make "sense out of nonsense"? My clients are the drivers, directors and deciders of their talk sessions. You bring your areas of concern to the table and in a safe and trusting setting we join hands in a collaborative effort to make "sense out of nonsense". Pieces of the puzzle start to fit.

I have experience working with a variety of issues including depression and anxiety, mood disorders, self-esteem struggles, relationship/interpersonal issues, severe and persistent mental illness, trauma, and co-occurring disorders.
Even when we have tremendous anxiety and pain, the strength and resilience we desire already reside within us. During times of stress, grief or uncertainty, it is common to forget this and to adopt maladaptive styles of coping and communicating that tend to deepen our distress. Sometimes we fall back into negative thinking based on faulty core beliefs about ourselves and the world. I will hold space for you with empathy and non-judgment. You will be seen, you will be heard, and you will be supported in your growth.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
