I have been a therapist for about 30 years, and in private Practice since 1987. While my style is eclectic, it is my warmth, compassion, and acceptance that underlie all of my work. I try to provide an environment, much like a container, for my clients to open to their own natural self compassion and acceptance. Seeing each person as whole, rather than deficient provides an environment for people to come to a natural place of healing.

People often think psychotherapy is only for crises. However research shows that therapy is one of the best investments you can make for life satisfaction and growth. In addition to therapy are other modalities that support healing and growth. Some of these holistic wellness tools include exercise, mindfulness, tai chi and yoga. I have a rich background in the application of mindfulness to promote healing and growth, and have experience integrating tools such as Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, DBT, CBT, Hypnosis and EMDR. I also find authenticity and humor essential for healing and use both liberally.

I believe we each have an innate resilience and I believe that as we discover this resilience we are able to more easily reconnect with ourselves, and then more easily reconnect with each other and our surroundings.

This life can be very challenging and bewildering. I feel inspired to offer compassionate and inquisitive presence for you and support your process in deepening resilience and discernment during times of stress, grief, life transitions, relationship changes and spiritual explorations. I believe our body is highly intelligent and offer Body-Centered Therapy in the form of mindfulness-based exploration and Hakomi Inspired body sensing. I also offer Expressive Arts Therapy, which can include writing, visual arts, movement and music.

It is common to see therapy as a journey to discover the Self. We have familiar maps, or patterns, which can lead to unhappiness or self-sabotaging behavior. You may find yourself stranded in all-too-familiar territory with little idea of how to move on. Like many journeys, it can be an exciting adventure but can also be full of unknowns. I see my role as your guide, to blaze new “routes” together that have worked well for others. Most people who identify a need for therapy seem to be dealing with natural defense systems that help manage shock and developmental trauma including attachment wounds. A defense response may be anxiety, depression, dissociation, psychosis, avoidant attachment, etc. A part of therapy is simply developing understanding and acceptance of defense mechanisms, then there is more capacity to reclaim or recover self regulation, co-regulation and self concept. I am interested in working with all people who have experienced trauma and as well as getting to the causal factors, developing grounding in the present and hope about the future.

I believe that we live in challenging times. Many people find it difficult to feel confident and self assured, have peaceful, fulfilling relationships, navigate the demands of finances, family, work and home, and also focus on nourishing self care. These challenges are interconnected. They are related to how we have developed our sense of self in the context of family expectations and experiences, societal demands, cultural assumptions, and media influence. It is necessary for all of us to learn how to live our best lives in these particular circumstances. You are not alone.
