It is the interconnectedness of mind, body, spirit and the natural world that creates the pathway towards healing. We do this with the guidance of the Self. During difficult times we sometimes need an outer guide to remind us of our inherent gifts as humans. I consider myself a guide and advocate for the soul and well being of my clients. I strive to empower my clients with deep self-knowing and the confidence to discern the best way towards healing, which is unique to each client. I view mental health symptoms as a form of communication between the body and that part of the psyche which needs attention and tending.

Welcome! I believe in reducing emotional pain, resolving relationship struggles, and improving coping skills. I offer both long-term modalities as well as brief, solution-oriented approaches - and am confident that all therapy can be pleasurable, precise, and quickly effective. I use straight-talk, playfulness, curiosity... and I am intuitive, non-judgmental and compassionate with a strong background in both body-centered and transpersonal modalities. I am highly effective in connecting with clients who recognize their desire for personal benefit but dislike and/or mistrust therapists or traditional talk therapy. LGBTQ friendly!

My approach is existential-humanistic, client-centered, and transpersonal.
For me, the focus of therapy is not primarily to fix disorders or cure diseases; I seek to increase your positive life skills rather than address negative patterns. What happens in the therapy hour is a microcosm of life at large. How you do anything is how you do everything. And so, I give special attention to the actual, to the present moment, in particular your immediate subjective experience. Ultimately, when you become aware of your resistance(s) to pain and return to wholeness and authenticity, my work is done.

I use an eclectic approach using Existential Therapy, Systems Therapy, Transpersonal Therapy, EMDR, and Brief Therapy.
My name is Mike Godby, and I am a psychotherapist with a master's degree in clinical psychology. I have been trained in relationships with myself and others. Many of my clients have issues with family, friends' bosses, and spouses. I use an approach of uncovering the self. My work is informed by transpersonal and psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, and Internal Family Systems.
I approach psychotherapy from a whole-person perspective and I believe therapy, along with other practices, can help us awaken to a life of meaning. In therapy I will help you identify the source of your longing to be whole, and together, we will move closer to that source, so you become re-sourced. Together we will explore your innate natural cycles and help you align to your own rhythm, so that you might meet depletion with rest and energy with creativity.

I integrate Jungian practices, Transpersonal and mindfulness to understand your emotional triggers and patterns that are keeping you from the life you long for.
Empowering Change coaching & counseling services meets you where you are and takes you where you want to go. We focus on the core issues that bring you here today. Some of these core issues are under the surface (shadow) and show up as anger, depression, self-doubt, dis-trust & anxiety. Often these emotional patterns are caused by old wounds that are calling for your attention. Understanding why these responses were formed takes them out of the shadows, freeing you from the power they have over you.

I use mindfulness and transpersonal approaches to help you find strength, authenticity, connection, and freedom.
You may be noticing that you don't feel like yourself and wondering if there's something wrong with you. Your relationship has changed, it's hard to get any work done or focus. You dread getting out of bed, which leaves you feeling guilty and stuck. Or maybe you just worry about everything. You want to connect more deeply with your friends, or to experience the love in your relationship that you used to feel. You want more excitement and meaning. And on top of it all, you feel that no one understands what you go through or you have no one to talk to about it: you feel alone.

I have a background in hypnotherapy and my focus is now on transpersonal psychology, while acknowledging that systems and intersectional identities affect our mental health.
You deserve to live a life of alignment and fulfillment and to receive support as you do so. Taking the step to speak to a therapist is an act of self-honoring as you move in a new direction in your life. My ideal client is motivated and seeks a caring therapist willing to individualize treatment. If this is you, and you are interested in EMDR, parts work/IFS, and a somatic orientation, please don't hesitate to reach out to connect further.

I work with people from all walks of life, experiencing a wide variety of mental, emotional and relationship difficulties. I work with children, parents of children, adolescents, adults and older adults. Adult psychotherapy clients who work best with me are usually looking for lasting solutions to emotional problems rather than advice, "tools" or quick fixes and they can tolerate a listening approach designed to deepen discussion. They understand that the unacknowledged thoughts and feelings that create havoc can emerge in therapy, and they are looking for a professional to help them understand and work through difficult moments.

Transpersonal Therapists

How does transpersonal therapy work?

Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.

How long does transpersonal therapy last?

Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.

Is transpersonal therapy effective?

Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilize the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.

What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?

There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
