I work from a psychoanalytic perspective with children, adolescents, and adults struggling from a variety of issues, including difficulty with intimacy and relatedness, recognizing and expressing emotional needs, feelings of loneliness or emptiness, self-destructive or self sabotaging behaviors, or repeating painful life problems with little sense of control. Since children and adolescents have not yet fully developed the capacity to talk about their emotional experience, difficulties tend to show in their behaviors, such as opposition, defiance, poor grades, or turning to drugs. In my work with adults I offer individual or couples therapy in a safe and nonjudgemental atmosphere.
In my experience, contemporary psychoanalytic forms of therapy are profoundly effective. Through careful examination of significant emotional experience that occur between the therapist and client, real and lasting change can occur. While meeting once a week can be very effective, I find that change results faster when sessions are held more frequently.
I completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Reiss-Davis Child Study Center in 1989 and specialize in psychodynamic therapy with children, adolescents, and their families. As a psychoanalyst I completed full training at New Center for Psychoanalysis, and am currently on the teaching faculty. I am committed to a lifetime of professional growth and development.
