We all struggle with life circumstances and difficult relationships! My primary goal is to support and assist families, and relationships improve connection and explore attachment, to provide feedback to help resolve current problems and to promote change and disrupt unhelpful patterns of communication. I am most interested in how people communicate through change and have experience working with sexuality, intimacy, coming-out, gender identity, blended families, consensual non-monogamy, and kink.

When engaging in therapeutic work I promise to show up with curiosity, respect, and a willingness to learn. When we are in session together, we are a team. Over the last five years I have worked with adults struggling with anxiety, depression, chronic pain, shame, self-harm, suicidal ideation, life transitions, interpersonal relationships, past trauma, recent trauma, and those who are exploring sexuality and gender identities. I have spent the last few years working with with individuals who had a very wide range of ages, mental health symptoms, life goals, cultural backgrounds, neurodiversities, and lived experiences.

First, I want to thank you for taking a brave, loving next step toward growth and healing. I’m a queer therapist working with individuals and couples, wanting to meet you where you are, knowing that therapy is an investment and not always for everyone. Too many of us can get stuck depending on the provisions of an individualized and unjust mental healthcare system that often leaves us needing more care, paying more money, and lacking trust to meet our needs and forge supportive relationships. I take it seriously that you're here, in the middle of whatever you are going through, looking for support, so let's start there.

I am personally and professionally familiar with geek and gaming culture, and believe these experiences and identities have a place in a successful therapeutic relationship. Further, I have experience working with lesbian, gay, and bisexual individuals, and all members of the LGBTQ+ community are welcome clients. I believe in the power of community that is built on shared values and experiences. If you identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ and/or gaming communities and would like to explore these identities as part of your therapy experience, or you would simply prefer a therapist within these communities, we may be a good fit.

Current openings! I'm queer and I specialize in supporting LGBTQ+ and nonmonogamous adults around trauma, family of origin issues, gender affirming care, and anxiety, including OCD. Before therapy, many of my clients think: Being in my head is stressful- there are things I'm fearful of talking about, or even thinking about. My past is still affecting me. Setting boundaries can be really hard. Sometimes I have nightmares or flashbacks of things I've been through. If that sounds like you, I can help. Therapy can be a safe, non-judgmental space to make sense of your experiences and create meaningful change in your life.

I believe that every person has the right to be treated with individual care. Because we are all unique, what works for one person may not work for the next. I like to approach helping you with a fresh lens every time, getting to know you, and finding which therapeutic approach to best help your situation. Building a relationship of trust and openness is the most important part to therapy, as well as creating an atmosphere where you feel safe and secure in your journey. Maybe you’ve done this before, and maybe this is your first time in therapy; I want to find what works best for you.

You are feeling stuck, experiencing stress, depression, or anxiety, or simply overwhelmed with life. You feel bad about yourself, and you’re constantly depleted of energy. Your relationships with people who are important to you - such as your partner, children, other family members, or friends - are suffering, and you’re not able to assert the boundaries you need, to put yourself first, or to feel happy or in control. Perhaps you’re overwhelmed with stress related to identities that are important to you, such as your sexual identity, gender or gender identity, race, ethnicity, or religion. You know there must be another way.

People often come to therapy because they just don’t feel good. Maybe they’ve suffered a traumatic or life changing event, or maybe they’ve just always felt that something isn’t right and they’d like to figure out how to feel better. Therapy can be a powerful tool to address these concerns and improve your life. Life can be rich and wonderful, but it can also be challenging and downright painful. Sometimes we need someone to really listen and understand. I am a queer psychotherapist practicing in Seattle. I offer patient, deeply engaged listening and a non-judgmental perspective, my approach is gentle and supportive.

All of my sessions are currently online or by phone. I offer individual sessions only at this time. My favorite people to work with are trying to heal from difficult childhood experiences. I love helping people find ways to put their trauma behind them and thrive in the life they are living. If archaic or more recent trauma is keeping you from living your best life, I would love to help you.

I am a marriage and family therapist that helps individuals and couples navigate the challenges of modern life. We explore how roles in family, relational, social, and cultural networks influence the whole person. The client is the expert on their story and my role is to help translate that narrative through our combined knowledge. Clients I work with often feel they have all the outside elements for a happy life, but still struggle with stress, relational problems, self-esteem, and work issues. Something is missing or preventing fulfillment and it is our collaborative efforts that help us discover and remove those barriers.

People often seek out the help of a psychologist, coach or consultant in order to improve in some way. Whether this means at an emotional/social/behavioral level or in a performance-related domain, I take the same basic approach: help you, the client, understand what it is you most need or want, and then work with you to get you there. My general mission as a professional is to help others - adults, teens and couples - grow and develop in increasingly gratifying and successful ways. My office is located in Spokane, but services are provided statewide.

Do you feel stuck? I am here to help you identify and change patterns that are no longer serving you. By listening to you without judgment, I gain a deep understanding of what is bringing you to therapy, then collaborate with you to identify new ways of thinking and being that will work better for you. Problems I often help with include processing adverse childhood experiences and recognizing how they impact us as adults; changing codependent relationship patterns; understanding the impact of attachment styles on relationships; restructuring negative thoughts; healing from eating disorders; coping with chronic illness; and more.

The high school years are complicated. Teens are complicated. You're wondering where your happy child went and how to get them back. As a Mental Health Counselor and former High School Counselor that has worked with thousands of teens, I believe this unique developmental stage is deserving of specialized care. Teenage mental health is different than adults and children which is why we have to treat it differently. It doesn't have to be about disorders, labels and canned treatments. I believe teenage mental health is about seeing this complex developmental and transitional stage of life as an extraordinary opportunity for growth.

Transgender Therapists

As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?

A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.

What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?

Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.

How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?

An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?

Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
