I am comfortable working with individuals under the GLBTQ+ umbrella. While working on my Master's Degree (2007-2010), I had a concentrated focus on gender dysphoria and transgender issues. I have been working with individuals who are dually diagnosed (serious mental illness and addiction or developmental disabilities and serious mental illness since 1991.)

I am a Master's level, pre-licensed therapist currently seeing clients under the supervision of a licensed, private therapist in Fairbanks. I work with clients locally and (via telehealth) throughout rural Alaska. I am committed to providing holistic, progressive, culturally conscious, and truly personalized counseling in a safe, friendly, and relaxed environment. The secret suffering we all experience is rarely laid bare for one another, yet we know it's shared. Feedback that I have received is that I am "blunt, but with a heart." I respectfully and directly refer to and discuss the suffering and its sources. I have extensive experience working with youth and their families, include in my field of interest improving communication within couples, coping skills for individuals struggling with a variety of mental health and interpersonal issues, teach and facilitate effective communication through a Circle model, and focus always on a client's relationship with the self.

I am a licensed professional counselor who strives to incorporate balance into my practice and daily life. Balance is sought by each individual and entails a holistic process regardless of age. I am intrigued by behaviors that involve self-sabotage and learned helplessness in addition to exploring the power of thoughts and their effect on human behavior and feelings. My natural curiosity of how others think, behave and respond to external stimuli was reinforced when I lived in Japan for nearly 2 years.

My style as a therapist can best be described as eclectic, as I draw from a variety of techniques and theoretical orientations. That being said I tend to be highly client centered, which means I assume clients are the authorities about their own systems. In therapy, it's my job to describe what the science of psychology has to offer given the presenting problem and my professional experience in the area. Services Provided Our services include a thorough evaluation which will include an initial diagnostic impression. Our office will provide you with patient education and our reccomendations for additions to your current treatment plan, and may serve as a complement to the current treatment team. We are a multidisiplinary team and utilize multiple modalities for patient care including Tele-Medicine. Face to Face Services Depending on your location in Alaska, your initial appointment may be a face to face appointment with one of our providers.
