Tracy M Townsend, PsyD, Psychologist in Portland
My goal is to co-create a trusting relationship in which you can begin to explore and change the difficult patterns that have kept you from living to your fullest potential and happiness. We will work to understand the ways in which your history may have informed and limited your life and relationships (both with self and others). We will also look at how to transform, heal, and grow in the here and now; to respond rather than react when caught up in overwhelming emotions or negative thought patterns. I utilize a non-pathologizing practical approach that includes mindfulness, self-compassion, and behavioral interventions.
I work with clients who are dealing with the full range of human experiences including relationship problems, grief, depression, self-esteem related difficulties, challenges with emotion regulation, anxiety/panic, trauma, and addictions.
I have practiced and taught insight meditation/mindfulness for many years; this influences my approach and understanding of my clients' suffering, basic goodness, and ultimate ability to be alright in the midst of their difficulties. Self acceptance and self compassion practices are at the core of what I know to bring healing and growth.
