My practice is focused on helping individuals understand and heal from the profound wounds caused by emotional or physical violence/neglect in close personal relationships. This includes adults who've experienced childhood abuse, neglect, and/or abandonment, as well as sexual assault, violence, and betrayal trauma. By conceptualizing complex forms of trauma from a feminist perspective, I investigate issues of gender, power, and culture, and identify them as the center of oppression, distress, and dysfunction in a person's life. Relational trauma often creates isolation, and I believe it is only in relationship that we heal.
In my work with clients, I strive to create safe, respectful, and compassionate relationships, to help them understand and transform their pain, and to guide them toward new ways of being with themselves, with others, and with their larger communities. I focus on clients' strengths and resiliencies to help them feel empowered toward positive change.
I also provide evaluations and letters of support for for gender-affirming surgery. Please NOTE: I am hearing impaired, and it is difficult for me to understand what people are saying on the phone, as I cannot see your face. Email and teletherapy are my preferred method of communication. I use assistive technology (hearing aids) in my work with clients.
