Two types of clients like me best:
First- those with debilitating anxiety, PTSD, OCD, or specific phobias; suffering from fear, perfectionism, intrusive thoughts/memories, avoidance and shame. For clients wanting demanding, but short-term resolution, I offer intensive treatment, meeting up to 2-3 times weekly, resolving symptoms in under a month. Second- clients wanting general support, guidance, or mentorship with shame, depression, purposelessness, emotional regulation, and communication. I use a combination of cognitive, somatic, and compassion-based interventions, sprinkling in IFS techniques for good measure!
To treat stress-related disorders I use EMDR 2.0- a highly structured but tailored modality that first targets and destroys the emotionality, vividness, and negative beliefs of traumatic memories, then replaces those negative beliefs with new, supportive ones. We meet either in-person or online, focusing each time on specific, planned memories.
It's overwhelming to pick a therapist- but take heart! Most therapists have almost identical outcomes. Unless a therapist has a specialty you know you want, call around, be patient, and find the best fit for you. Unless it's an emergency, take the time to find a good fit.
