Healing and learning can only happen when we feel safe, when all parts of ourselves can be seen and are welcome. My goal is to provide the safety to help patients reconnect with parts of themselves that have been rejected. In order for desired changes to occur, a new orientation towards oneself and one's problems is needed. I aim to bring compassionate curiosity in acknowledging and honoring whatever arises for patients and encouraging self-acceptance.

You don’t understand why you feel this way. You’ve worked so hard to get here, but it feels different from what you had hoped for. On the surface things are going well, but you still feel dissatisfied, empty, distant, and disconnected. Parts of you stay hidden and it is exhausting for you to keep it that way. You feel like connecting and understanding will help you through this, but another part of you is terrified of getting what you want and need. You’ve tried other therapists and perhaps medication, too. Things feel a bit better for a little while, but you always come back to this. You want deeper, lasting change.

I have a FEW openings for MEDiCAID clients. I really enjoy working with teens and young adults. I also work with adults of all ages. Most of my clients are working on resolving sexual orientation questions, gender identity concerns, low self-esteem, self-identity issues, depression, anxiety, and social fears, among other problems. As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I have a particular interest in supporting gender non-conforming people and the community as a whole. If I don't feel like the right therapist for you, please see our website for profiles of all of our therapists.

I have been a practicing psychotherapist for the past twenty-five years. I believe we have all experienced challenging events in our lives that have never been adequately resolved, especially difficult childhoods and family disfunction. My unique specialty is to assist in discovering and moving beyond old patterns and belief systems in order to allow more self-understanding, authenticity, and sense of self-worth. I do this through my training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and a gentle form of bi-lateral therapy called EMDR.

Each client is unique with his or her own needs and goals. It is critical to understand what each client wants and why, before a therapeutic relationship can be established and therapy move forward. Initial sessions explore goals, time frames, and needs, as well as determine if the therapist and client are a good fit. Therapy may be short or long term.

I believe that healing comes through the caring and dynamic engagement created between human beings. Thus, my approach is interactive and our time together will be a collaboration that encourages mutual presence and relatedness. Research confirms the importance of this. While no specific technique is consistently effective in eliciting change; certain therapists, who bring a particular presence and sensitivity to their work, often are. I believe I am such a therapist and this is largely because of the intention I bring to our work together along with my advanced training in depth psychology and relationally oriented psychotherapy.

I work collaboratively with my clients to help them construct a meaningful life. This means supporting clients to make meaning of even the more painful aspects of their experience. Perhaps you are dealing with a difficult life transition, struggling with memories from a painful childhood, grieving the death of a loved one, engaging in self-destructive behaviors, or are attempting to navigate the complex world of relationships. I will work with you to address issues from the perspective that although life is often painful, people have the ability to make healthy choices and to live lives of integrity, depth, and beauty.

Most of us want more from our lives than just the absence of symptoms. To thrive, we need meaning, purpose, pleasure, connection with others, and a healthy relationship with the self. If you're here, you already know how to survive. I'd like to help you resolve issues that are getting in the way of having the life you want, whether that's a traumatic past, mental health symptoms, or trouble with relationships. I am queer, sex-positive, body-neutral, and affirming of your identities.

Evolution can be messy. Healing and growth are non-linear processes which may feel challenging at times. A holistic approach to healing ensures that we are addressing all facets of the human experience, creating a space to discover our truest and most authentic selves, even when it feels like a hurdle. Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel) put it best, “Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.” I aim to make therapy a safe container where those questions can be explored, either one-on-one in an individual therapy session, or for couples, in a joint session.

Everyone has the capacity to heal no matter how profoundly wounded they are. Each individual's path to healing will be unique and for the best chance of long term recovery a person needs to find a healthy balance within their body, mind and spirit. It is my intention to help each client find the unique treatment team to help them achieve this balance. Additionally, I am experienced in affective, eating and personality disorders, substance abuse and trauma. I also understand how each of these interact with one another and can cause even more distress within each person.

How can I find a therapist in Santa Fe?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
