My career started in Early Childhood Education, where my passion for working with young children and their families directed me to grow expertise into additional areas by pursuing and excelling in the Oakland University Counseling Master's program. As a Counselor for the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, I was an acting subject matter expert for substance abuse, depressive and suicidal ideation, and schizoaffective disorders.

Deborah Schiffer is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan. She has over 25 years of experience partnering with adults, families, children, and adolescents seeking to treat a variety of struggles such as anxiety, stress, depression, relationship issues, parenting concerns, and more. She completed her Bachelor of Arts from University of Michigan and received her Master of Arts in Counseling from Oakland University. Deb utilizes a variety of treatment modalities to meet the individual needs of each client.

I enjoy working with children, families, couples, adolescents, and adults. I have extensive experience in helping people work through an assortment of disorders, ranging in severity. I have provided individual, family, couples, and group therapy. I have extensive knowledge in helping individuals and families understand specific strengths and weaknesses through completing neuropsychological/psychological assessments for various ages (2-100). I have worked with children who have experienced significant trauma. I strongly believe that developing a trusting environment is significant for each individual through their healing process.

I often view therapy like treating an ailment—it takes some time to heal and feel better. After a while, you regain your strength and feel like yourself again. I utilize evidence-based treatment modalities such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based approaches to clinical care. I have specialized training in Trauma Focused CBT for treating individuals who have a history of trauma.
