Youth & Family Counseling (YFC) is a family friendly counseling center located in Libertyville. We provide individual, couple, and family therapy services to children, adolescents, adults and seniors. Our mission is to help people from all walks of life heal from trauma, cope with difficult life transitions, and reach their full potential. Our therapists have an extensive range of clinical backgrounds and areas of expertise. All are compassionate professionals who are committed to helping their clients achieve their treatment goals.

Our "whole body" approach to treating mental health conditions is supported by clinical studies. These include but are not limited to: Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), diet and exercise, spiritual/social evaluation, yoga and art therapy. Many still focus only on the brain, treating symptoms, not causes. In many cases they over-prescribe medications. While our physicians do prescribe medications as needed, what sets us apart is our commitment to explore all options. We search for root causes and provide the most appropriate treatment, not merely the most convenient one. When we do prescribe, we go the extra mile to customize a plan that minimizes side effects. I treat children, adolescents, couples and family in a variety of therapeutic means. I have used cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic, EMDR, behavioral, and eclectic therapies in addition to others. I also have experience working with behavioral, mood, anxiety, conduct and other specialties. I appreciate diversity and love working with others of various cultures, abilities and races.

Therapy is a deeply personal experience of exploration, growth, and healing. For 20 years I have had the privilege of supporting individuals and families in various healthcare settings. I have a special interest in working with young children, adolescents, and their parents; young adults transitioning to independent living; and adults interested in exploring their experiences of developmental trauma, life transitions, parenting, chronic illness, grief and loss, identity and spirituality. Our work may shift between being process oriented, experiential, and goal-driven to accommodate your changing needs and priorities.

I enjoy helping people to feel more control over their lives. I am very curious about people’s stories. How can we edit our thoughts to feel better? Is there a different way to think about this problem? Sometimes I use humor to lighten the mood, but I will always uphold professional boundaries. In fact, I love to teach ways to set clear boundaries in our families and our workplaces. I have worked with many trauma survivors, and they describe feeling less trapped in shame spirals, with more confidence and fewer flashbacks.

I work with clients who feel they are out of options, feel lost, burnt out, and feel their symptoms have taken over their lives. With all of my clients, I work to instill the skills not only needed to overcome the issue they are seeking counseling for, but also how to use these skills with future problems. My therapeutic approach is tailored to each individual client and their needs but is always goal oriented. I have a special interest/experience in self-injury, depression, anxiety, pregnancy/postpartum issues, parenting and chronic pain/migraines with adolescents and adults.

Dr. Chinni Chilamkurti is a licensed, pediatric psychologist with over 25 years of experience providing comprehensive behavioral health services for children and families. She specializes in working with children and families presenting with a wide range of challenges. Her specialty areas include Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD), Anxiety Disorder, Parenting and Co-Parenting. Her approach is pragmatic and collaborative. She firmly believes that resources aimed at enhancing children's emotional and behavioral resiliency are critical to help children succeed.

Helping restore a sense of balance and self-worth to my client’s lives is my passion. My experience has spanned over 14 years, with a strong foundation in child and adolescent pathology. My philosophy is to work collaboratively in goal development and attainment, to highlight the connection among faulty thinking, feelings, and ineffective coping patterns and promote healthy changes. Through empowerment to challenge these factors, comes a renewed sense of confidence, strengths, and effective skills to manage life’s stressors and relationships.
