Are you worried about telling your child(ren) you are getting separated or divorced? Are you concerned that your marital conflict, separation, and/or divorce are hurting your child(ren)? Do you find yourself preoccupied with painful feelings, meanwhile your child is acting-out, withdrawing, or acting young for his/her age? Research indicates divorce does increase the risk for psychological, social, and academic problems. Yet it's possible to reduce the harm of divorce and increase the odds of a positive outcome for your family. I have helped many families navigate this process with less stress and more harmony.
Play therapy is the research-based treatment of choice for divorce. Using compassion and insight, I have helped many children ages 2-12 learn how to cope with loss. These children develop tools to calm their nervous system, preparing them to face other future life challenges with more emotional intelligence.
Your choices are really important in determining whether your child is at risk or resilient. Before, during and after separation and divorce, I have helped many parents make good choices and create an emotional environment that reduces stress, lowers risks, and fosters children's mental health and well being.

DBT for Teens

Teens often struggle in silence with self-esteem, anger, depression, anxiety, relationships, communicating, transitions, and working through trauma. DBT Group helps teens to address these challenges by gaining skills in 4 domains: Distress Tolerance - Instead of avoiding stressful situations, DBT helps individuals effectively work through them. Mindfulness - Individuals more fully appreciate the present moment, focusing less on negative thoughts about the past or future. Interpersonal Effectiveness - Individuals learn to ask for what they need and set healthy boundaries. Emotion Regulation - Individuals recognize their emotions more clearly with emphasis on observing emotions without judgment. Research based and powerful.
