I am a graduate of GCU with a bachelor's in Psychology with an emphasis in marriage family therapy. I have worked in the mental health field since 2015. I have worked with SMI individuals who have struggled with Schizophrenia, Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar, and PTSD and children ages 0-10 with behavioral concerns. providing parenting support. I enjoy utilizing techniques from CBT, DBT and Trauma focused therapies and include teaching my clients self-compassion. Although my passion is is trauma, I am willing to learn more therapeutic techniques and explore different cultures to help my clients reach their goals.

I enjoy helping children achieve positive social, emotional, and behavioral change. These changes include decreasing anxiety, aggressive behaviors, and emotional outbursts, improving self-confidence, and increasing respectful and cooperative behaviors. Life experiences can be difficult for children to understand and navigate. My treatment approach combines play therapy and structured problem solving to help children make positive changes. I provide a nonjudgmental and accepting environment that allows children to explore and learn more effective ways of expressing themselves and interacting with others.

My name is Kayla and I hope to walk along with you on this path, offering compassion, co-regulation, and some neuroscience education along the way. When we can lean into the understanding of our own neurobiology and how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors have come to be, we may also begin to explore where we may have gotten stuck and how we can have a renewed access to the wisdom and assets that our bodies possess.

I have worked with kids and their families for over 25 years. My favorite children and teens are strong willed, capable, and smart (academic and/or common sense). I see kids ranging from 3 year old to college students. Some of the most common issues that I work with are ADD/ADHD, Oppositional/Defiant, Depression, Anxiety and Bipolar Disorders. Other general issues are poor social skills, difficulty with frustration, poor communication skills and parent-child conflict. Because so many of the families that I see are struggling with how get along easily, I prefer to include parents whenever possible.

I love to help people. I believe that therapy helps everyone at different parts of life. I love working with kids, adults, families, couples and teens. I use DBT and CBT to talk about mindfulness, awareness, perspective and trauma. I am trauma certified and enjoy helping people with the good and bad traumas of life. Working on your goals is very important. I like to think that we work on you as a whole person. I teach a lot of coping skills because some work now and some may work later but a lot of tools within your toolbox is important.

Alexis is a graduate with honors from East Tennessee University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Health Sciences and a minor in Communicative Disorders. Alexis furthered her education at Emory and Henry College of Health Science in Marion, VA where she graduated with a 4.0 GPA and her Master’s of Physician Assistant Studies. She is a recipient of Phi Alpha National Honor Society and Alpha Eta Honor Society. As a NCCPA certified physician assistant, Alexis is looking forward to caring for her patient’s behavioral health needs from pediatrics to geriatrics.

As your therapist, I am dedicated to work together to assist and guide you on a self-discovery journey to feeling better and learning effective ways of coping with diverse situations. My experience working in the mental health field has given me insight on the resilience we all carry within us and we sometimes just need that different perspective to shed the light at the end of the tunnel. I specialize in working with children birth to early teens as well as young adults who have experienced trauma, including sexual and physical abuse, neglect, witness to domestic violence and homicide and attachment difficulties. In addition, Natalie uses several modalities in treatment, including Child Parent Psychotherapy, dyadic treatment for children (birth to 5) and their parents, play therapy, art therapy, and sand tray therapy.

We are here to empower children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families with effective supports to communicate effectively and learn the necessary social and emotional components. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. ABA therapy applies our understanding of how behavior works to real situations. The goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning. Positive reinforcement is one of the main strategies used in ABA.
