If you’ve found yourself saying: “My body feels like it’s holding things I can’t name.” “I miss who I was before the pain.” “I’m tired of my body making decisions for me.” “I’m afraid the people in my life think I’m being dramatic.” “I’m tired of being dismissed in medical spaces." …we might be a great fit. I work with people living with chronic pain and illness, especially those who sense that their bodies are carrying the weight of trauma, stress, or long-standing emotional wounds. I hold the belief that your body houses your life experiences, your family's history, your resilience, and the parts of you that never felt fully safe.

Whether you’re navigating the isolating journey of chronic illness, surviving the complexities of domestic violence, or feeling stuck in patterns shaped by early relationships—you’re not alone.
I help adults who feel stuck in survival mode—whether due to chronic illness, trauma, or painful relationship dynamics—learn how to reconnect with themselves and others in safe, meaningful ways. My work is rooted in attachment theory, which means I look at how your early relationships may have shaped your beliefs about love, safety, and self-worth.

Sometimes life hurts...A LOT! Please know there is healing from trauma, from broken relationships, from dependence of substances or behaviors, and from chronic pain. This comes from an individual that has experienced most of these. I am a certified EMDR therapist and an approved EMDRIA consultant. I work with severe traumas on a daily basis and understand how trauma can wreak havoc on our life. I am also a certified clinical hypnotherapist and have learned how to integrate these two models of therapy. The result is better than either individually! I use these two models to help heal trauma and chronic pain, along with others.

Do you feel like you’ve tried everything but still feel stuck in the same cognitive, relational or behavioral patterns that cause shame, depression or anxiety? Do you feel like traditional therapy doesn’t work for you? Most of my clients have tried for years to create change yet remain in the pain of secret loneliness, critical thoughts of self, compulsive behaviors , or secrets in general. Many appear successful on the outside, while privately struggling internally. I believe by gaining a deeper more compassionate sense of ourselves and our histories, appropriate whole body intervention and loving support , healing can occur.

This coursework included a practicum and internship, which allowed me to gain experience working with individuals, couples, and families experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, chronic illness, burnout, traumatic events, addiction, and life changes such as divorce, co-parenting, empty nest, and mid-life crises.
Counseling can facilitate healing, growth, and resilience, and I consider it an honor to be part of that journey with my clients. Prior to working in mental health, I spent 16 years practicing law. It was through this part of my journey that I realized my true strength and passion was helping clients, not as a legal advocate but rather as a mental health professional and guide.

Chronic Illness Therapists
How does therapy for chronic illness work?
Many people living with a chronic illness may feel they cannot speak honestly about their experience out of embarrassment or fear of being a burden, or because those close to them do not understand, for example, that they may “look good” even if they do not feel good. Therapy sessions are an opportunity to speak openly with someone who knows their symptoms are not in their head and who can offer practical, proven suggestions for managing feelings of grief, shame, or fatigue, such as techniques to challenge unhelpful thoughts about symptoms and develop new ways to respond to them, such as distraction or calming breathing practices.

Can therapy help with physical symptoms of chronic illness?
Yes, especially if an individual with chronic illness has developed depression. People with depression are less likely to maintain their health treatment regimens or to take positive steps to manage physical symptoms when they arise, thereby potentially complicating their medical prognosis. Treatment of depression, through talk therapy, medication, or both, will often improve one’s physical state as it eases the emotional burden of illness.

What are the most effective treatment options for chronic illness?
No one living with a chronic illness, or their loved ones, should see depression as an unavoidable result of their condition. Instead, they should actively seek treatment. Research shows that people with depression are less likely to devote the required time and effort to maintaining or monitoring their health, and so therapy to limit the risk of depression can be vital for physical health as well. Therapeutic approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness-based stress reduction have been found to help individuals reduce stress and anxiety.

How long does therapy for chronic illness take?
There is no set timeline for therapy for people living with chronic illnesses, but many will see a therapist for a number of weeks or months, typically spanning at least 12 weekly sessions. Some people feel that they experience progress faster than others but even some who quickly feel improvement may continue with sessions for months or years. Some people may benefit from maintenance therapy if their symptoms change or they experience a decline in physical health. Others find that the skills learned in short-term therapy can be used on an ongoing basis, even after therapy has concluded.
