Building our family of five was supposed to be a magical time, right? A time to deepen our marriage and create life together. On one hand, it was… AND I didn't expect years of loss, hardship, trauma, and burnout to accompany the joy. While I cherish my three living sons and my stillborn daughter, we've gone through hell to get them here. I’m here for you – fellow new dads, NICU dads, loss dads, and dads to be. I’ll walk with you through the valley of grief. I’ll celebrate important milestones with you. I'll validate your feelings AND challenge you when necessary for growth. And I’ll empower you to live wholeheartedly through it all.

Change is hard. Relationships are hard. If you're experiencing challenges in work, family, or any area where other people are involved-there is help! And if there's anything the last few years have shown us, it's the need for help in relationships! It can really pay to develop a great life/work strategy and create a powerful set of life “tools” for your “toolbelt”. Therapy can do this and more. We will work collaboratively as a team, setting and achieving goals through structured discussion.

There was a time I was so desperate to make my own marriage work that I went back to school to become a Marriage & Family Therapist. I then spent the next decade researching human connection. Not only did this research save my own marriage, it now has helped thousands of couples develop a connection that they didn't think was possible.

Hi, I’m Tyler—and I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed. Before I became a therapist, I wrestled with anxiety, addiction, and not feeling “enough.” Healing didn’t happen alone—I needed safe, real connection. That’s what I now offer others. In our work together, you'll find a judgment-free space where you don’t have to pretend. My passion is helping people face the parts of themselves they’ve been hiding and find hope, clarity, and connection again.

Let's talk about what is right about you......Let's name the good and let's begin the change. Most of us need help doing this as our day to day lives emphasize the negative and consequently we forget who we truly are. What does your "Best Self" look like and how do we get there. It is our hope at Positive Psychology Group that we may be of some help should you have retreated from an active participation in life by helping you rekindle the joy in life that has somehow been hidden and suppressed.

Everyone faces challenges in today's fast-paced society. Sometimes, the challenges can feel overwhelming. Therapy can help address issues that interfere with our relationships, goals, happiness and ability to function. Change in behavior does not typically come easily, though. Established thinking and behavior patterns may get us through the day, but they also can prevent us from reaching our full potential. When a client establishes a therapeutic relationship with a counselor, they in essence are saying that merely functioning is not good enough. They want more: increased self-awareness, improved relationships, enhanced professional success, greater personal happiness.

I decided to become a therapist because of my own struggles with mental health issues especially as an adolescent and young adult. I want to take these awful experiences and use them as motivation to help others. If you are an over thinker, I believe I can help. I work with engineers, executives, health care professionals, teachers, and pretty much any person who is in a profession that tends to reward perfectionism and over analysis.

Are you overthinking the joys of life? Anxious thoughts may stunt connection with those you most care about. What if you could find relief from the rumination? When we are able to re-shape our relationship with our thoughts and emotions, we have the possibility to enjoy what we most value. Counseling can provide the space for you to try out new techniques to respond to disturbing thoughts and overwhelming emotions. Change can be scary. Staging the same can be more terrifying. Are you ready for newness and relief?

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
