I’m Abby, an LMSW with 10+ years in social work and 4 years as a therapist. I work with all ages, especially LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent clients. Outside of therapy, I love fishing, hanging with my pets (and my partner too, I guess), and sharks, but to a completely reasonable degree (it is not reasonable). I really enjoy working with people who’ve felt misunderstood, been told they’re, “too much,” or feel like they’ve had to hide parts of themselves just to get by. Existing with a human brain can get weird and complicated. A phrase I use frequently with my clients is, “brains are gonna brain,” so let’s figure out what yours is up to.

I believe we are created for relationships, which is why having healthy relational dynamics among family, friends, coworkers, or other individuals is crucial to our well being. There are many obstacles we face in our daily lives. Some situations we can easily navigate, while others can be more challenging and cause us to question ourselves and our ability to persevere and overcome. Life is hard and we are not meant to do it alone. It is important to know that you are not alone in your situation and that there IS help and support for you.

I help clients move forward- literally and mentally. Imagine walking or running with your therapist. It's a thing! As a certified Run Walk Talk Therapist and a guiding member of the National Association of Running Therapists, I incorporate movement into counseling sessions. This compounds mental health benefits- talk therapy, movement, and nature. Alternatively, I offer virtual sessions for convenience and for those clients who desire a more traditional approach to therapy. Additionally, I offer professional consultation services on a variety of mental health and wellness topics.

Tired of repeating painful patterns, the same arguments, emotional distance, or the ache of feeling unseen or misunderstood no matter how hard you try? Anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, broken trust, or chronic stress can leave you feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and disconnected. This is not advice driven therapy or surface level coping. We focus on what is driving your patterns beneath the surface so change can happen at the root, not just managing symptoms. Together, we slow things down and explore what is happening in the moment, helping you feel more grounded, clear, and connected within yourself and your relationships.

Hi, I’m Devon — a therapist in Nashville, Tennessee. I work with individuals & couples to help you feel heard and supported while you figure out what’s going on in your life. I want therapy to feel like a place where you can show up as you are, without pressure or judgment. I'm the kind of therapist that brings warmth and humor into sessions and doesn't just nod along. I’ve worked with incarcerated youth, crisis shelters, and families in addiction treatment, and that experience continues to shape how I show up.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
