Are you sick of feeling too sensitive, emotional, and overwhelmed? Do you struggle to feel confident and sure of yourself? You wish you could get through all the responsibilities and expectations in a day, but it’s just too much. You’ve wondered how other people do it. How do they get everything done and not feel anxious and overwhelmed? The way it’s going just isn’t working and you want to feel better about yourself. You want to understand yourself more and feel more secure in who you are. I want that for you, too! Reaching out for support is a vulnerable act, and I appreciate your willingness to be vulnerable.

Maya Angelou once said, “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” Changes, challenges and struggles are complex and take us out of our comfort zone. Too often we find it difficult to slow down, learn from and appreciate the journey of healing. My goal is for clients to help address those challenges, complexities and struggles whether it involves concerns with attachment, behavior regulation, family dynamics, infertility, parenting, racial identity or trauma as well as understand the meaning behind the behavior.

My client base is focused on the addict and those close to them who have been affected by the addict's behaviors. Clients entering the practice have found themselves caught in a destructive cycle of behaviors; often wishing they could stop, but find themselves continuing the behaviors. Then, there are those the addict has betrayed and hurt deeply through his or her behaviors. The affect of the behaviors have often left the loved ones traumatized and in need of support through the healing process.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by chronic stress, burnout, or trauma, particularly as a neurodivergent or highly sensitive individual, you’re not alone. I began my therapy career as an in-home intervention therapist, working with families affected by chronic stress and trauma. This experience highlighted how neurodivergent and highly-sensitive individuals often face additional challenges due to lack of support and accommodations. These unseen struggles can carry into adulthood, leaving you feeling burnt-out. Coping skills that once helped may no longer be effective, and the weight of daily life can feel overwhelming.

As women with autism, we bring unique perspectives, creativity, and strengths to every setting.
Are you neurospicy?! Welcome! Being a woman with autism can make you feel invisible and marginalized. From a young age, many of us navigate a world that expects us to fit into narrow social norms, constantly masking our true selves to blend in. The struggle to decode social cues, manage sensory overload, and process overwhelming emotions can feel isolating and exhausting. In childhood, we are often labeled shy or aloof when in reality, we were grappling with sensory sensitivities or struggling to express ourselves verbally. As we grow into adolescence and adulthood, the pressure to conform to societal expectations intensifies.

Often life can get overwhelming, and we can feel stuck. My passion is walking alongside of teens and adults as we sort through grief, loss, life changes, depression, anxiety, old wounds, or discovering your identity to find healing and clarity. I strive to create a safe, non judgmental environment and treat each client with respect and understanding. I also want to create a place where you can grow and begin resolving the issues that brought you into counseling. I tend to see counseling for each client as a journey, and my role is to encourage, guide, and help you develop the tools necessary to continue on your unique path.

May I offer you a place to vent, process and renew? Maybe you are holding a tired head in your hands saying “what is happening with me?” My belief is that sharing your precious inner thoughts and emotions in a safe setting is a worthy effort. I can help to make sense of it alongside you. I work with those in recovery from narcissistic and traumatic abuse, those trying to change their "people pleasing" behaviors, and with those seeking growth and awareness during major life transitions. You may find that after the first session you feel great relief. In person/ Video sessions are available for anyone living in TN.

One of my very favorite quotes by Brene Brown is, "Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren't always comfortable, but they are never weakness." As life will sometimes present challenges that may be difficult to navigate, it's not necessary to navigate those challenges alone. I would love to support you in discovering the courage to navigate your truth. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, I offer treatment that is goal oriented using a variety of therapeutic approaches.

My passions include helping women of all ages, as well as clients with sexual issues, histories of abuse, divorce issues, body image, eating disorders, issues surrounding mental load, new motherhood, and parenting.
After experiencing my own trials in life, I learned just how beneficial counseling can be to supporting us through life’s difficulties. It is my goal to provide that healthy support to others who are walking hard paths. For me, the therapeutic relationship involves a mutual learning from one another, as well as addressing a person’s needs from all arenas, including emotional, physical, and spiritual. An understanding of attachment helps me encourage clients to find clarity in their lives and healthier relationships with self and others. I am grateful for the honor of being a safe space for clients.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
