Sometimes in life, you come to a place where you feel like you can no longer manage stress and challenges. Maybe you’re experiencing a transition, relationship difficulties, a new role, or you just feel stuck. You have been doing your best to get through each day, but it’s just not enough. You are tired of going through life depressed, lonely, anxious, or insecure, but you don’t know what change to make or where to start. Please know that you do not have to continue feeling this way or go through this alone! It is possible to feel like yourself again, and therapy is a great place to start.

There is a stigma that seeking counseling is weak or only for those who are going through “really hard things” - both of those statements are simply not true. Taking time to focus on who you are and pouring into your mental health is a great way to love yourself. With that being said, it takes a great amount of vulnerability, humility, courage, and hope to open up to someone about things you may have never talked to anyone about before. My desire as a counselor is to build trust and help you feel safe and comfortable as we work together.

(My practice is currently FULL, but I'm happy to help you find another clinician who may be a good fit.) Though I see a range of client types, I find I am best suited to work with the black sheep. My clients often find it taxing, if not impossible, to function at high levels while carrying their stressors. I work with people to figure out what good looks like for them, and help them create a new, intentional, normal. My clients come to me stressed, anxious, depressed, traumatized, worried, and angry; and they are all on a path of healing and growth. I see all sexual orientations and genders in my practice.

Life can be difficult at times. Perhaps you are wanting to make some changes in your life, or relationship. I believe that most of us CAN make the changes we deeply want to, particularly if we have a kind and knowledgeable advocate to that process. You may have reservations about asking for support. Know that when you do, you are bravely moving yourself forward to a better tomorrow. I strive to be a compassionate, trustworthy, and enthusiastic partner to my clients' growth processes.

Not accepting new clients
I am currently not accepting new clients. / From personal experience, I know that finding the right therapist can take time and energy - two things that often feel far away when you're navigating overwhelming burnout, grief, and/or life changes. Or perhaps asking for help feels incredibly foreign and you're the one who's used to having it together... though that's a testament to your strength, I'm here to tell you that you don't have to shoulder that burden alone. It is my hope that the therapeutic relationship can serve as a place where your body, mind, and spirit can rest, reattune, and find renewed strength for the journey ahead.

SATURDAY hours available & Video sessions! I have been practicing psychotherapy in diverse settings for 14 years. I completed my residency at Vanderbilt University and served as an expert consultant for NBC's Today Show. As a psychologist, I have the opportunity to help people understand and navigate very difficult situations. I help my patients develop insight into problems that prevent them from feeling whole and complete. By reading between the lines and exploring the complexity of physical and mental health we are able to finally resolve long-standing concerns. I look forward to helping you find the answers you're looking for!

I am a caring and empathetic person who has a heart for helping people. As a therapist I seek to work collaboratively with clients in establishing treatment goals. My hope is that clients will learn new and healthier ways of living and gain a greater ability to treat both themselves and others with compassion. It takes courage to step into the therapy room, so I work to provide a disarming and open space for clients to share. My curiosity guides me as I get to know people for who they are and I enjoy helping clients learn to think, feel, and act in new, productive ways to become the people they want to be.

Are you feeling stuck in patterns that prevent you from thriving and succeeding in ways that deep down you know you can? Perhaps your relationships are suffering, or intimacy feels hard or scary. Whether it's anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress, relationship problems, self-harm, addictions, or something else, my guess is these patterns emerged from a need to cope or survive. As a queer person, I know how hard finding an affirming and non-judgmental therapist can be, especially if you are LGBTQ+. A therapist who meets you exactly where you are right now can be the first step to building the life you want!

Instead of being taught how to cope skillfully with painful experiences and feelings, many of us are taught to numb, hide, or ignore them. This often intensifies the suffering, and also is often the only thing we know. I provide a safe space where clients can express, process, and learn about their thoughts, feelings, and emotions without judgment. I help clients to develop more workable coping skills and habits so that they can move toward their goals and live in alignment with identified values. If "being positive" hasn't worked for you, you may be in the right place.

"Life can often feel like a lonely journey full of obstacles and challenges. I am passionate about providing a non-judgmental environment during your journey of finding health and grace. I strive to provide a space where our "masks of perfection", and performance can rest. By honoring unmet attachment needs, we are able to uncover our deepest hurts and desires. I desire to validate the hardest life experiences while creating the space for change. The overarching goal is the freedom that awaits when you find yourself again."

I believe that we all deserve support and at the core of personal transformation is a duality of self-compassion and desire for change. As humans we are intrinsically wired for connection, resiliency and healing. However, sometimes there are things from the past or other life stressors that cause us to feel stuck and that healing is out of our reach. I am deeply interested in the mind-body connection and believe reconnecting to our bodies can be incredibly transformational. I work with folks in adolescence and adulthood who are desiring to address trauma, optimal performance, depression, anxiety and life transitions.

Do you feel stuck? Maybe you feel like you’ll never get out of the same old routine no matter what you do. Or you think, “Even if I talk to someone about what’s going on, my clothes won’t get folded,” or, “My kid just won’t get off their phone. We’ve tried everything!” And, to be fair, you probably have tried everything. At least, everything that works for “everyone else”. I’m Abby. I specialize in working with people who think a little differently. Whether you’re a teen (or a parent of one), neurodivergent (ADHD, Autism, OCD, etc.), or experiencing burnout, you may have thought, “How do I get back to normal?”

Success is defined in a number of different ways and is different to every person. However, it does not always translate to the happiness, mental wellness, or contentment that we may expect it to provide. In order to explore our own life satisfaction, we have to identify what brings that joy / fulfillment / purpose and what is standing in the way of these experiences / feelings, that may seem inaccessible for various reasons or in a certain stage of life. I like to say, "we don't know what we don't know," and gaining personal insight takes both time and intentionality. Once gained, this insight can be truly life-changing.

Reaching out to a therapist can be scary, especially if you've had a bad experience. My approach is non-judgmental, individualized, and collaborative, and I strongly believe it is key to first earn the trust of my clients. My style has been developed over the nearly two decades I've worked in mental health and through the 9,000+ hours of therapy, coaching, and supervision I've offered since becoming a therapist in 2011.
